A new variety of hybrid grapes, which was obtained by crossing the Nakhodka raisins and Arcadia grapes, was named Helios. The resulting variety took only the best qualities of the "parents".

Characteristics and description of the variety

By planting this type of hybrid, you can get a bountiful harvest of grapes. It ripens quickly enough. It takes 110-120 days. The shape of the brush resembles a pyramid and reaches 1500 g. A separate bush bears about 6 kg of fruit. The berries have a delicious nutmeg flavor with a strawberry aftertaste. The skin is of medium thickness, does not burst, and the grapes tolerate transportation well. The pulp is juicy. The content of seeds inside is no more than two pieces per berry. Those harvested at the end of summer have the highest sugar content.

Helios (Geleos) - grapes are quite frost-resistant. It tolerates low temperatures well (down to -23 ° С). But if, in the vineyard during the cold season, the thermometer drops below, then the bushes of Helios need to be covered for the winter.

Important! The hybrid perfectly withstands the attacks of wasps and bees.

To achieve a stable ripening of the crop, it is necessary to subject the vine bushes, which have a height of 1.5 m, to the correct molded pruning. It is held every spring. When pruning a fruiting vine, 7 or more eyes are left. You can't do less.

Note! The flowers of Helios are both male and female, so additional pollination is not required.

Landing

In order for the hybrid to constantly delight with its harvest, you need to choose the right soil for planting in advance. It must be extremely fertile land and well loosened, otherwise the seedlings will die. Helios are planted in spring or autumn at a distance of 3 m from each other. It is also important to ensure constant watering of the vineyard throughout the season: from the moment of flowering to ripening of the fruit. And make sure that the water does not stagnate at the roots, otherwise it will negatively affect the end result - the taste of the grapes.

Poor access to sunlight and air to the ground is also detrimental to the hybrid. Therefore, it is worth removing weeds at regular intervals, thinning the bushes themselves, and doing special feeding.

Preparing for winter

Before the onset of winter, starting with the first frost, you need to saturate the ground with additional moisture, spilling it 2 times more abundantly than usual. Further, as mentioned above, if the winter in the region is cold, then the vineyard should be covered. To do this, each bush is divided into 2 parts, tied with a rope and laid on the ground, previously covered with any material. To prevent the branches from pulling up, they need to be fixed. Metal arcs are stuck into the ground and the bushes are covered over them with film.

Important! You can use a simpler shelter for the winter. Cover the vine shoots laid on the ground with a layer of 20-25 cm.

The Helios grape variety has earned excellent reviews from those who already grow it on their site. Mature brushes do not lose their presentation for a long time and they are not eaten or sharpened by wasps. At the peak of maturity, when exposed to rain, the berries do not burst and remain intact. They are also superbly stored. This is already enough to try to plant Helios grapes in a summer cottage!
