Among the many varieties and hybrids, the Straseni grapes have been popular with gardeners for many years, not yielding their positions against the background of new, recently obtained varieties. It has earned recognition thanks to its unpretentious care, adaptability to various climatic conditions and excellent yield.

Characteristics of the Straseni grape variety

Straseni grapes - a hybrid of Moldovan selection, created in the 80s on the basis of several varieties: Druzhba, Dodrelyabi, Catta - Kurgan and Muscat de Saint-Valier. In various climatic conditions, it can behave as a medium early and medium late. Among amateurs there is another name - Consul.

Description of Strashensky grapes:

  • The bush is tall, strong, the leaves are slightly elongated, the shoots ripen well (up to 85%).
  • The flowers are self-pollinated, they do not bloom at the same time: first in the upper part, and then blooming occurs from the bottom of the brush.
  • The bunches of the Strashensky grape variety are very large, weighing from 1.5 to 2.2 kg, rather loose.
  • The berries are round, dark blue, large - the weight of each berry is 10-14 g, the peel is thin and tender.

The positive qualities of the hybrid include the following qualities:

  • high yields - up to 30 kg per bush;
  • excellent presentation;
  • sufficient resistance to pest damage;
  • winter hardiness;
  • average moisture content, making it possible to grow in areas prone to drought;

Grapes Straseni

The negative properties of the Straseni grape variety can be considered:

  • uneven maturation of the brush;
  • susceptibility to spoilage by birds and wasps;
  • short shelf life;
  • low sugar content.

Note! The gardeners turned the last drawback from a minus to a plus. The Straseni grape variety, like no other, is suitable for pickling, the berries prepared in this way will serve as an excellent snack on the New Year's table.

It is recommended to deal with uneven ripening as follows: during the flowering period, the lower third of the bunch is removed. This almost does not affect the yield, but the ripening time is reduced and the presentation is significantly improved. The same measure serves as protection against damage by wasps.

You can increase the sugar content by placing the vineyard in the sunniest part of the site.

Basic rules for growing

You can plant Strashensky grapes both in spring and autumn. The place should be sunny. For spring planting, the soil is prepared in the fall by adding compost or humus. On sandy loam soils, drainage is not required, and on clay and black soil, a layer of crushed stone, expanded clay or sand is laid out on the bottom of the pit. The recommended pit size is 75 by 75 cm. A stake is installed in the center of the pit to support the bush, the pit is filled with nutritious soil, the planted bush must be watered abundantly.

Grapes Straseni sapling

At first, watering should be regular; the soil surface near the trunk should not be allowed to dry out. When plant growth becomes noticeable, the number of waterings can be reduced.

Subsequently, the vineyard is watered annually three times a season and one more time before winter.

Important! In arid areas, watering is recommended more frequently.

Removal of the first brush is recommended to shorten the flowering time. When ripening begins, the first pruning is carried out. Up to 18 eyes should remain at one level.

On Strashensky grapes, all stepsons are not removed, as with other varieties.

Since Strashensky grapes are considered disease resistant, three sprays per season are sufficient. To protect bunches of grapes from birds, it is advisable to cover plantings with nets, and set traps for wasps.

In areas with cold winters, the vines are lowered from the trellises and covered, but in the southern regions of the country this is not required, since the hybrid is winter-hardy enough.

It is interesting: in the Krasnodar Territory, it was possible to grow a record harvest of the Strashensky variety, its brushes reached a weight of 7 kg, and their length was more than 70 cm.

Gardeners - amateurs have appreciated this variety of table grapes for its excellent yields, suitability for canning and marketability.
