In order to grow healthy poultry, special preventive measures must be taken. These include the addition to food and drink of the drug Amprolium for chickens and adult birds.

What is Amprolium

The drug belongs to the group of anti-coccidial agents. It is used in veterinary medicine to treat poultry and animals against a widespread disease - coccidosis. When an individual is infected with an ailment, the death of epithelial tissues occurs. As a result, the bird may start bleeding and severe intoxication. The first symptom of infection is low activity: she practically does not move, eat little or completely refuses to eat. The appearance of an infected bird also changes: its feathers become disheveled and stick out in different directions.

Diarrhea often occurs in birds, and droppings may include blood or foam particles. The volume of goiter increases in the bird, it constantly wants to drink. The droppings of sick birds have a rather unpleasant odor. After a short time, the bird becomes very thin and dies.

Birds can become infected for many reasons. Among the most common are the following:

  • chicks in a poultry house or cage crawl very densely;
  • poor ventilation of the room;
  • the causative agents of the disease come from outside.

It is not uncommon for chicks to become infected through litter, drinkers or feeders that are kept in unsanitary conditions.

Important! Having found such symptoms, it is necessary to immediately begin treatment. The disease affects the entire body of the bird already 5-6 days after infection. If the infected birds are not cured, the possibility of the death of the entire livestock is not excluded.

In addition to coccidosis, Amprolium is prescribed for the treatment of such diseases:

  • Trematodosis;
  • Aymeriosis;
  • Entomosis;
  • Cestosis.

The effectiveness of the product directly depends on the conditions in which the birds are kept, as well as on their diet. That is why it is necessary to maintain a certain temperature regime in the poultry house, as well as a humidity regime. The success of treatment also depends on the type of causative agent of the disease, the level of its sensitivity to the constituent components of the drug.

On a note! From the stomach of the bird, the drug enters the cells of pathogens, provoking the process of decomposition of the carbohydrate. This leads to cell death. The effectiveness of Amprolium is due to the fact that its chemical composition is similar to Thiamine, which is vital for the vital activity of coccidial cells.

Medicine instead of drinking

The epithelium of the stomach of birds has a low permeability. Thanks to this, therapy using Amprolium does not lead to toxic poisoning. Approximately 98% of the drug is excreted in the faeces.

The product is in the form of a white or yellowish powder, which dissolves well in water. It contains lactose as an auxiliary component, and Amprolium hydrochloride 20 mg (20%), 30 mg (30%), 22 mg (22%) or 25 mg (25%) acts as its main active ingredient. You can buy the product in bags or plastic cans. For chickens, a package weighing 1.4 g is sold.

The popularity of Amprolium is due to the inherent advantages of this drug:

  • for a short time destroys coccidial cells in the body of a bird;
  • has no side effects;
  • not toxic;
  • not addictive.

Taking the drug also helps to increase the immunity of poultry to infection with coccidia.

Important! It is undesirable to give Amprolium to young animals up to 15 weeks old, as well as to layers, otherwise there is a risk of penetration of active components into the eggs. In this case, it is impossible to eat them. It should also be borne in mind that it is forbidden to give Amprolium to birds along with other medicines that have anti-coccidal properties.

Only 7 days after the end of the drug intake, the bird can be slaughtered. When working with the product, you must wear a protective suit, and after contact with it, you need to wash your hands well.
