Many people simply adore these black berries. Therefore, it is not surprising that currant bushes can often be found on land plots. Moreover, the plant is not whimsical, it winters well and, with proper care, gives a lot of tasty fruits.

What is rejuvenation for?

This procedure is carried out in several cases. The first, but not the main one, is simply an overgrown plant. In this case, gardeners do not care much about the harvest, they are more important for the aesthetic appearance. The second case is when the grower is going to get a good harvest every year. If you neglect rejuvenation, then the bush, like the grapes, will simply crush itself, which will affect the size and taste of the berries.

When is

There are two best time frames for this work. There is no particular difference between them, they are equally effective. The first option is late autumn. It will be clear from the bush when at least half of its leaves fall off. The second option is early spring. Some prune even at zero or even slightly minus temperatures. When the temperature is above zero, the earth begins to warm up and sap flow begins. And the bush must be rejuvenated before the start of this process, and even more so before the buds swell. Some people prefer to prune in the spring because damaged trunks are easier to see.

How is

In fact, there is nothing complicated about it. It is enough to know a few simple rules. After planting the seedling, rejuvenation begins at the age of 3 years. Many people mistakenly think that the thicker the barrel, the better. They say that the plant is stronger, which means that the fruits will be better. This is not the case, especially since everything is exactly the opposite. Thick trunks bear little fruit, so they get rid of them first. Damaged trunks are also removed. They can be distinguished by the dark color of the bark and the covered aphids. Healthy branches are also sometimes cut, but at the very top. Thus, their growth is stimulated, and the berries then swell even more.

That is, every year 1/3 of the bush is removed. Each branch gives good results for about 3-5 years. Therefore, the oldest are cut off (almost at the very ground, leaving stumps of about 2 cm) and the youngest remain. First-years don't touch at all. Thus, a permanent rejuvenation process is obtained.

If the bush is already too overgrown, you can also try to save it. To do this, almost all branches are removed and a couple of the youngest remain, and from them a bush is already formed further. It should be borne in mind that the black currant bush bears excellent fruit (even constantly rejuvenating) for about 20 years. After that, the fruits become tasteless and nothing helps him. Therefore, it is simply uprooted and a new seedling is planted, but not in the old place.

Tool used

There is nothing new here, just the presence of an ordinary pruner. The branches of the currants are stronger and therefore the pruner must be well sharpened so that it will cut the trunks and not crush them.

Black currant is not only tasty, but also a very healthy berry. It is simply eaten fresh or added to a variety of dishes. Therefore, planting currant bushes will be a very necessary thing.
