Strawberries are loved, perhaps, by everyone who is not allergic to them. Almost every garden or personal plot has at least a small bed with this culture. Strawberries are the queen of berries. Not for nothing in Egypt it is called "faraola" from the word pharaoh.
This culture is quite capricious, unstable to diseases and pests. This is facilitated by:

  • high humidity;
  • thickening of landings;
  • incorrect crop rotation;
  • wrong choice of breeding site;
  • insufficient care of the berry.

If the defeat could not be avoided, it is necessary to help the plantings recover as soon as possible. For such a case, there is a very cheap and affordable tool. This is the usual pharmaceutical iodine. It will help get rid of the root cause of the disease, disinfect the plantings themselves and the soil under them.

Diseases and treatment

The main diseases of strawberries:

  • powdery mildew;
  • brown spotting;
  • white spot;
  • fusarium wilting.

Various "folk" compositions are used to combat them:

  • a solution of soap and salt (40 g and 50 g, respectively) in 10 liters of water. Strawberry plantation processing weekly;
  • diluted milk whey (kefir, yogurt) in water (1 liter per bucket). Planting needs to be processed every three days;
  • infusion of 100 g of field horsetail in a liter of water. The daily infusion is brought to a boil and diluted with five liters of water. The procedure is carried out 4 days in a row;
  • mustard water. The proportions of the solution are 2 tbsp. l. mustard powder in 10 liters of warm water;
  • solution of 30 drops of iodine and 1 liter of milk in 10 liters of water;
  • a weak solution of potassium permanganate;
  • ash solution. 300 g of furnace ash is infused in 10 liters of water for a day;
  • daily infusion of 500 g of crushed garlic in a bucket of water;
  • brilliant green diluted in water. For 10 liters of water 5 ml of the drug. Processing is carried out after flowering. If necessary, the procedure is repeated 2 times a month (the last time - 5 days before the harvest).

Traditional methods of treating strawberries

The benefits of iodine treatments can be especially noted. The drug is absolutely harmless. It is used both as a remedy and as a top dressing. Another important property is the ability to form a protective film on the treated surfaces.

We must remember! If the soil under the berry has become impoverished, treatment with iodine alone will not help. Adjustment of soil fertility is required.

All about feeding strawberries with iodine

Iodine is used in different ways in different cases. Each type of pest and each disease has its own composition and processing time.

Insect pest control

The most harmful insect enemies of strawberries:

  • Weevil beetle. This parasite lays the larva inside the ovary and eats the flower before the fruit emerges. Therefore, it is necessary to fight it before flowering. To do this, well-spilled strawberry plantings are thoroughly sprayed with a solution of iodine in the proportion of 5 grams per bucket of water.
  • Aphid. The pest eats the roots of the shoots.

The solution for processing is prepared from half a glass of milk, 30-35 drops of iodine and one liter of water. You need to make sure that the product gets on all parts of the berry.

Important! To exclude repeated damage to aphids, it is necessary to remove ants from the site. They are the main carriers of aphids.

Iodine against berry diseases

The main diseases of the berry:

  • Gray rot, red spots. These misfortunes can completely deprive the crop.The fight is required to be carried out systematically and for the growing season to carry out three treatments. The first, and most important, at the very beginning of the blooming of the leaves. The latter should be no later than three days before picking the berries.
    The solution is prepared at the rate of 5 g of iodine, 5 g of liquid soap per bucket of water.
  • Powdery mildew. The most dangerous berry disease. It is not possible to cure the affected bush. It must be destroyed immediately. But iodine solution can prevent the onset of the disease. Three times treatment per season with a solution of iodine, serum and water (10 drops, 1 liter, bucket, respectively) will help.
  • Late blight. Fungal damage. There are two iodine-based formulations for berry treatments.
    First composition. A liter of whey is mixed in a bucket of water, 40 drops of iodine and 15 ml are added. hydrogen peroxide. Spraying is carried out at the beginning of the growing season, in the middle and before fruiting.
    Second line-up. Pour ash (8 liters of water and 2 liters of ash) into boiling water, stir and allow to cool. Then add 10 ml of iodine and 10 g of boric acid. After 12 hours, dilute the solution with water in a ratio of 1:10 and spray over the berry.

Iodine against strawberry diseases

Iodine as fertilizer. Processing rules

How to feed strawberries with iodine in spring? As a food, iodine can be used on poor soils as an additive to the main complex fertilizers. Gardeners claim that iodine as a fertilizer encourages good growth, flowering and the formation of a large number of quality ovaries. Increases the immunity of bushes. It is believed that the plant takes as much element as is needed for development and the excess will not cause harm. Experienced and not very gardeners have been using various formulations with the addition of iodine for cultivated plants for many decades. The drug has shown itself well as a disinfectant of seed material, soil, as a prophylactic agent against infection by fungi, as a pesticide to combat harmful insects.
The convenience of using iodine solutions also lies in the fact that they can be safely used from the beginning of flowering to fruiting.

Feeding strawberries with iodine

It is recommended to feed the plantings in the morning or evening hours, in calm dry weather (but for freshly watered plantings). The solution is used to treat the bushes themselves and the soil under them.

How to water whey on strawberries

Whey from milk is obtained by fermenting it (folding the protein) and further separating the thick component - cottage cheese. Almost everyone knows that cottage cheese is a useful product, but there is not much information about the benefits of whey. Even on sale, it began to appear recently, no more than 10-15 years ago. But it contains quickly digestible amino acids, fats, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins (A, B, C, E, PP), trace elements (iron, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium, copper, zinc).

How to water whey on strawberries

For the human body, there is great benefit from it in case of disruption of the gastrointestinal tract, problems with the colon. The serum replenishes the vitamin balance of the body.
For garden crops, in addition to enriching the soil with vitamins and microelements, the dairy product acts as a protection against diseases and pests. Serum lactic acid bacteria inhibit pathogens (fungi, insects). With such treatments, top dressing, the root system of any culture (trees, shrubs, vegetables, berries, flowers) develops intensively, the green mass increases, and a lot of healthy ovary is formed.

Attention! When using whey, in order to avoid plant burns, a ratio of 1 (serum): 3 (water) should be observed.

For processing strawberries, in addition to the basic composition, you can prepare a solution with additives. For example, adding 2 drops of iodine to serum diluted with water will help strengthen the protection of the berry against late blight, brown spot and white spot. You can also add tobacco dust here. This method of protecting the berry is used throughout the growing season, from spring to autumn.You can repeat the procedure every 10 days, but at least three times per season. The first treatment is carried out when leaves appear (before active flowering) on strawberries.

It should be remembered that it is advisable to carry out treatments in the morning or evening hours (or on cloudy days), in calm weather. Fertilize each bush separately. It is also important to heavily saturate the soil with the solution.

Milk whey for feeding strawberries

By the way, the fermented milk product copes well with lesions of fruit trees and shrubs, such as:

  • scab;
  • rust;
  • powdery mildew;
  • aphid;
  • leaf roll.

Treatments for fruit trees and shrubs do not differ from treatments for berry trees.

Application of brilliant green for strawberries

A penny tool - brilliant green, which is sold without a prescription at any pharmacy, is indispensable for growing a healthy berry. With timely use, it will save the crop from gray mold and powdery mildew. As you know, these are the main diseases of berry plantations. 5 ml per bucket of water practically save the crop from death. Without harm to the soil and the plants themselves, the solution can be used from spring to harvest. There is no harm in processing directly over the berry. It is not recommended to spray just before picking because of the risk of a change in the taste of the berries (particles of brilliant green may remain on the surface of the berries).

Application of brilliant green for strawberries

In addition, the treatment with diluted brilliant green inhibits the growth of the mustache in berries. Instead of feeding on green mass, the plant directs all its forces to increase the yield. No wonder the drug is included in the product for reducing the formation of root shoots of strawberries and garden strawberries "Zar-2".

The use of iodine for vegetables and berries. Gardening tips

Experienced vegetable growers make their own changes to the composition of solutions and the frequency of processing.

On a note! For processing vegetable crops (tomatoes, cucumbers) and berry plantations, it is proposed to use solutions of iodine and brilliant green alternately. The frequency of spraying is 2 weeks. The solution is made from 10 ml of the drug and a bucket of water.

Each plant and soil is strongly wetted with the solution. The first processing of the garden is carried out immediately after the snow melts and the beds are cleared of last year's foliage.

Add to the whey solution:

  • sugar (0.1 kg per 2 l);
  • yeast (1 tsp per 2 l);
  • iodine (2 drops per 5 liters).

In such a complex solution, the mowed grass is insisted, ash is added (to reduce acidity, 2 tbsp. L per 2 l). This concentrate should never be used in its pure form. For root treatments, it is diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10, and on the sheet - 1: 3.

There are also recipes using ammonia (10 ml of ammonia, 200 g of laundry soap per bucket of water), manganese (2 g per bucket of water).

Interesting! Treatment with iodine helps to avoid the appearance of wine mold - they bloomed in the production of wine from strawberries.

Iodine for strawberries is a very effective antiseptic. It is also known that it has antimicrobial (inhibits the respiratory system of pathogenic microbes), anthelmintic and fungicidal properties. But optimal protection can only be achieved with prevention or treatment at the initial stage of the lesion. Otherwise, the use of chemicals (fungicides, insecticides) is inevitable. It is still not advised to rely entirely on folk methods.
