Gardeners plant roses not only to decorate their summer cottages, these plants are also used to obtain valuable essential oil. And the petals of their flowers are used to create a drink that looks like tea.

The history of the creation of the variety

Rose Mary Ann was created in 2010 by breeders of the Rosen Tantau company. They tried to combine the traditional flower shape and good frost resistance. At first, Mary Ann spread throughout Europe, but only in 2017 did the hybrid reach Russia.

Crop technical data

The Mary Ann rose variety is both a spray and a hybrid tea. This is due to the parent plants taken when creating the species.

Rose Mary Ann

The description of the characteristics is as follows:

  • In height, the size of the bush reaches 0.7-1 m, and in width it grows to 0.6 m. The stem is so strong that it does not bend under the weight of large brushes.
  • Rose Marie Ann has flowers with a diameter of 8 to 10 cm. Each of them consists of 70-80 petals, which, when the bud is fully opened, bend outward, forming a kind of rosette.
  • From 5 to 7 roses are collected in the brush. They give off a sweet, fruity smell. Some people compare it to citrus.
  • Mary Ann leaves have a glossy finish. They are dark green in color.
  • The flowers are purple, peach, pink and orange.

With prolonged and abundant flowering, the hybrid bush takes on a slightly spreading shape. Roses for decorative purposes are grouped. This hybrid is often used to decorate borders.

Note! If you cut a flower and set it in a vase of water, it will smell sweet for 10-12 days.

Agrotechnics

For planting, it is better to choose seedlings that are already 2 months old. They need to be purchased from reliable manufacturers or in company stores.

It is better to plant bushes in early spring. For Mary Ann, loamy or black earth soil is suitable. Sprouts can be planted in places where water is nearby, as this rose tolerates a large amount of moisture well.

Important! For 1 sq. m beds, you can not plant more than 3 plants, otherwise there will be a thickening of plantings, which will lead to the death of flowers.

Pits are dug up to 50 cm deep, superphosphate and humus are placed on their bottom. It is recommended to deepen the root collar by 5 cm.Then the planted hybrids are watered with water, and the ground under the stems is mulched with sawdust (layer thickness - up to 8 cm).

Planting and caring for roses

Shrubs are formed in the first year. With timely irrigation (1 time per week) and top dressing (the first time when buds appear, the second - during flowering, and the third - before frost) with mineral and organic fertilizers (but not manure), large flowers will appear on all planted bushes.

To protect against insects, pest-destroying drugs are used. For the same purposes, you can apply folk methods of fighting parasites, for example, soapy water or copper sulfate.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

This variety has large flowers with a pleasant smell.

Mary Ann rose blooms throughout the year until the first frost. The advantages of the variety are as follows:

  • large flowers with a pleasant smell;
  • the ability to withstand severe frosts and heavy rains;
  • resistance to diseases such as powdery mildew, gray mold, black leg, etc.

Disadvantages of Mary Ann:

  • the large width of the bush does not allow planting many flowers in the garden;
  • this rose does not like to be in the sun, it needs partial shade;
  • the plant is susceptible to attack by various garden pests.

If the summer resident wants to decorate his plot with this flower, then it is best to adhere to the planting and care rules recommended by experts. Only in this case Mary Ann will delight the owner with her fragrance for many years.
