Breeders do not stand still, but are constantly working to please gardeners with new varieties of vegetables and fruits. Onurdynya is on the agenda today. What is it? How to grow? How does it taste? About this and much more in today's article!

Unusual properties

Ogurdynia is a hybrid of cucumber and melon, capable of changing its shape, appearance and, most interestingly, taste during its growth and ripening. In the early stages, it is an unremarkable cucumber that is no different from its traditional look. Later, the fruit changes shape and color and turns into a real fragrant and aromatic melon.

Growing

Ogurdynia loves bright sunlight and loose, fertilized soil. To meet the second criterion, you can compost your crop. If this is not possible, then just clean soil with at least a small amount of compost will do.

It is better to fertilize the plant with organic fertilizing, this is quite enough for good growth.

The fruits are very resistant to climatic changes and many diseases, so they will not give much trouble to gardeners.

Ogurdynya at the end of its ripening reaches forty to fifty centimeters and resembles a torpedo in shape.

Watering

Ogurdynia loves moist soil, so it needs to be watered often, but in dosage, in order to prevent decay of the rhizome.

If possible, you can install drip irrigation - this method, like no other, will have a beneficial effect on the growth and ripening of fruits.

Pests

The main pests for gourd are birds: from sparrows to crows. They cannot deny themselves such a fragrant and sweet delicacy. Therefore, you need to protect the fruit from unwanted guests. You can cover the cucumber with a protective, light and breathable mesh fabric, or resort to a more traditional option - install a scarecrow that will scare away birds.

Storage

The culture is very fruitful, the first fruits appear already two months after planting in open ground.

Ready-made cucumber has a shelf life of up to fifty days, provided that it is placed in a cool room with good ventilation.
