For rabbits with viral hemorrhagic disease, in our time, no cure has been found. The only way to protect these animals is through vaccination, in which a weakened strain of the virus is injected into the animal. As a result, the rabbit gains immunity from this disease for a while. This article explains what Rabbiwak V is, how to use it correctly, and why it is important for rabbit farming.

Composition and form of release

When sealed, this product can be stored for up to 18 months. It is recommended to keep it in a dark and cold place, away from children and animals. To use Rabbiwak V correctly, the instructions for rabbits must be well studied.

In appearance, the product looks like a light brown suspension, in which a precipitate is easily formed. It dissolves quickly if the container is shaken.

The vaccine comes in the form of a vial or ampoule. They can be designed for the number of doses from one to one hundred. The most commonly used vials are designed for a dosage of ten doses.

If the drug is opened, then its shelf life is one hour. After that, it must be disposed of. It is not allowed to simply throw away the liquid. The recycling process consists in boiling an opened bottle or ampoule with the remains of Rabivak for half an hour. After that, the vaccine residues will no longer be dangerous.

Important! If the vaccine has changed color, the tightness of the container where it is stored is broken, it must undergo a disposal procedure.

Dosage and method of administration

It should be borne in mind that 1 mg of the drug is needed for one dose. It is allowed to dilute it with 1 ml of distilled water. The vaccine can only be diluted in this way.

The drug can be administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly. The usual injection site is the animal's thigh.

If multiple rabbits are to be injected, a separate syringe should be provided for each. If this is not possible, disinfection is required each time: boil for 15-20 minutes.

Before carrying out the vaccination procedure, it is necessary to shake the bottle with Rabbiwak until the precipitate (if any) disappears completely.

The first time the vaccination is done when the rabbit is 30-45 days old.

Rabbit vaccinations

It will be necessary to carry out the following procedure three months after the first time.

Note! In the future, the vaccination is repeated every six months throughout the entire life span.

Contraindications and possible side effects

If the rabbit is pregnant, it is better to wait until she gives birth. However, if it is believed that there is a real threat of infection, and it is dangerous to wait, then the vaccine can be used. There is no evidence that an injection at this time can harm the rabbit, but such a possibility exists.

In the event that the dose of the vaccine used is exceeded, no negative consequences have been identified, however, there are cases of allergy to the drug, but they are very rare. If this happens, the drug will have to be abandoned.

It is strictly forbidden during the Rabivak vaccination period to simultaneously carry out another similar procedure. For this, at least 14 days must elapse from the date of drug administration.

Vaccination against HBV

After the introduction of the vaccine, immunity develops after a few days, this may take from five to nine days. Over the next 12 months, the rabbit will be reliably protected from HBV disease.

Vaccination against HBV

If you need to use Rabbiwak, the instructions for rabbits tell you how to dilute 10 doses. To do this, you need to use 10 ml of distilled water.

Rabbiwak for rabbits should not be administered to sick or weak animals. If there is a suspicion that the animal has already become ill, the use of the drug is meaningless. Rabivac V is not intended for treatment - its use is effective only as a preventive measure to create immunity to HBV.

Note. Before this procedure, it is necessary to treat rabbits from worms.

When vaccinating, personal safety measures must be observed.

In this situation, you need to use:

  • protective rubber gloves;
  • tight pants;
  • closed glasses;
  • bathrobe;
  • rubber boots;
  • headdress.

If during the procedure the vaccine accidentally gets on the human skin, then it must be washed off with clean water as soon as possible.

If the drug gets on furniture, wall or floor, it is necessary to rinse this place with caustic soda or chloramine.

What to do after vaccination

Important! It is important to strictly follow the vaccination procedure throughout the rabbit's life, otherwise the effectiveness of protection against HBV can be significantly reduced.

How effective is HBV vaccination?

Rabbivak V is not 100% efficient. But, nevertheless, after vaccination, the probability of infection is 3%. This makes the application of this measure justified. It should be borne in mind that at the moment no methods of treatment for HBV have been developed.

In each specific case, when a decision is made to vaccinate, it is necessary to take into account how real the danger of infection with HBV in a given area is. Using Rabivak is one of the important ways to protect rabbits.

Rabbiwak V analogs

This vaccine has two analogues: Pestorin and Lapimun Gemm. However, the quality of Rabbiwak is considered to be higher.

Pestorin is used as a single dose in rabbits that are 10 weeks old. If the drug is injected into a rabbit, a stable immunity to HBV and myxomatosis is formed in these animals. This product should only be used on healthy rabbits. If there are signs of these diseases, the therapeutic effect of the use of Pestorin will not occur. This is a means of preventing these diseases when breeding rabbits.

Pestorin

Lapimun Gemm creates stable immunity in rabbits for a period of 12 months. It is prophylactic, but not curative. When using this tool, it is necessary to deworm the rabbits two weeks before the start of the vaccination process.

Both of these analogs are available in vials, each of which contains 10 doses of the vaccine. Although the rules for their use are similar to those that apply to Rabivak, nevertheless, you need to study the relevant instructions and act in accordance with them.

It is recommended to purchase breeding rabbits from trusted sellers. Using Rabbiwak V as directed is a means by which you can protect rabbits from HBV for a period of time.
