Natural resources are inexhaustible and open up unlimited possibilities in gardening. Rich soil, water and a variety of plant species are such a fertile environment for the development of landscape design talent. Soil is more than just land to plant and grow. These are also various relief forms that encourage landscape artists to create, for example, a multi-level flower bed, about which this publication is.

Landscaping and its principles

Each site has its own characteristics and before starting work, you should study the territory and its relief. If there are sections with different landscape shapes at the surveyed place, then you can resort to dividing them into separate zones of different shapes.

This method allows you to decorate each zone in a certain style, and then harmoniously combine all objects into a single composition that will comply with the artistic and design norms of landscape design principles.

What are multi-tiered flower beds

Each person who has a personal plot tries to recreate something special on it. You don't have to be a professional for this, you just really want to. A multi-tiered flower bed is a great opportunity to creatively express your individuality. Such tiered flower beds with their own hands imply a large flower garden of several "floors", assembled from available materials (boards, stone).

Note! In order for the tiered flower bed not to seem pretentious and tasteless, it is worth considering not only its composition, but also how it will fit into the overall design of the garden.

Methods and materials for construction

There are two options here, depending on the options available. Garden shops offer a wide range of prefabricated structures for multi-tiered flower beds, which have their own cost and often quite a lot. The second option of a multi-tiered flower bed with their own hands is suitable for everyone: at each summer cottage there are many different materials at hand, they often seem to be unnecessary junk (for example, plastic bottles, pieces of furniture, old driftwood of dried trees, unnecessary car wheels or just tires). Below you can see the drawings and step-by-step photos of the proposed designs.

Flower beds from old car tires

Many summer residents have such "wealth". Giving yourself the opportunity to dream up, you can create an excellent flower bed-pyramid using waste tires. And if they are also of different diameters, then you will inevitably get an excellent cascade composition that will decorate any area. This material can be used to make many garden sculptures, flower beds, flowerpots, mini-flower beds with tiered inclusions.

Additional Information! By filling all the voids with fertilized soil, the car tire will not only turn into a three-tiered flower bed, but also an excellent tool for growing, for example, strawberries.

Rules for the selection of plants in a multi-tiered flower bed

The choice of plants for a cascade bed is an important step in creating a garden masterpiece in the form of a stepped flower bed. After the structure itself is ready, albeit only in the project, you should think about how and what to plant on each "floor" of the flower garden. Indeed, in order for the composition to be harmonious and pleasing to the eye, each element must have a place suitable for the design.

The main thing is the correct selection of plants in a multi-tiered flower bed

  • How to make two-tiered flower beds: One of the first things to look out for is the size of the plants and the size of their inflorescences (or flowers). Plants growing tall should not cover lower ones. As well as large and small flowers should not "conflict" with each other. As for the growth of plants, it is recommended to plant flowers from the upper to the lower tier in a descending order from high to low. At the same time, it is better to select the size of the inflorescences on the contrary - large-flowering plants along the lowest tier, and rising higher, to select smaller flowers.
  • Taking into account the multilevel structure, you need to remember that water from above will flow downwards, so the upper “floor” will dry out faster. From here it follows that it is better to plant flowers on top of a cascading flower bed that do not require abundant watering, and are unpretentious to care for. The lower the tier, the more moisture-loving the plants should be. Otherwise, at the very bottom, they will simply die from over-watering.

Important! The ability to choose the right plants for such a garden structure should be indicated.

It doesn't matter what kind of composition you get as a result, in gardening, the main thing is taking care of flowering pets. After all, it is they who are the main value and decoration of every household farm.
