Hornets are one of the largest genera in the family of true wasps. Unlike other genera, they are quite peaceful, and usually show aggression only near the nest. Moreover, their bites are much more painful than wasps bites. Therefore, if a meeting with a representative of this family on the street is not dangerous, then it is necessary to get rid of the nest found in the attic as soon as possible - solely for safety reasons.

Currently, there are many ways to get rid of hornets, and not all of them require special equipment.

general information

However, before figuring out how to get hornets out of the attic, it is worth mentioning those categories of people who are better off not fighting wasps and hornets on their own, but to seek help from professionals. So this:

  • people suffering from insectophobia;
  • allergy sufferers.

How to withdraw?

The most effective and safest way to get rid of hornets even before the formation of a nest is by catching and neutralizing the uterus at the first stage of its formation. It is very simple to distinguish the uterus from an ordinary representative of this genus - it is much larger in length, reaching 3.5 cm.

Since hornets reproduce quickly, the fight against them should be started from the moment the first individuals appear. The main thing that needs to be done upon finding representatives of this genus of insects in the attic is to inspect the room for a nest.

Important! Wear a protective suit before checking the attic, looking for a queen, disarming a nest, or taking any other action with a hornet.

If nests were not found on the territory, and the visits of hornets are single and do not cause severe inconvenience, it is worth considering whether their destruction is necessary. The fact is that these insects are quite peaceful, but at the same time they can be dangerous, therefore the question of their destruction is far from unambiguous. In some situations, it is easier to leave the hornets alone than to try to get rid of them.

Attention! It is most convenient and safest to get rid of hornets in late autumn or early winter.

The reasons for the appearance of insects near a person

Before starting pest control, it is worth understanding the possible causes of the appearance of insects:

  • The house is located next to the existing apiary.
  • There are many flowering plants on or near the site, and the hornets appear during the flowering period.
  • They can be attracted by the strong smell of tainted waste.
  • A large number of pests that hornets feed on.

Perhaps, when any of the reasons are eliminated, the insects will calmly leave the territory on their own.

How to destroy hornets in the attic

It is definitely worth exterminating these insects only if the queen has managed to build a nest somewhere in the attic or in the attic and has already begun to actively reproduce. In this case, it is most convenient to destroy the nests in the fall, after the hive goes into hibernation.

Important! If pest control takes place during the period of insect activity, it is better to carry it out at dusk, since it is at this time that their reaction is slightly reduced.

Ways of struggle can be conditionally divided into:

  • the fight against individual individuals;
  • mass destruction.

A combination of both methods will be most effective.

So, the recommended sequence of actions when a nest is found is as follows:

  1. It is necessary to stock up on both protective clothing covering the entire body, face and hands, and insecticides.
  2. Wait until the insect activity subsides.
  3. Pre-seal the holes through which insects can get out. Further actions depend on what shape the nest is, and whether the room is isolated.
  4. If the nest is small, then do the following. An anti-pest agent is sprayed into a dense bag, put it on the bottom of the nest, add another portion of an insecticidal aerosol to the hole from above, and then tightly fix the bag with adhesive tape (for convenience, you can take a dense garbage bag with ties). After that, the nest is left for a day. If the remedy does not work completely, the procedure is repeated. If it is not possible to use the bag, you can replace it with cling film wound in several layers. For spraying the insecticide, a small gap is specially left, which is closed after applying the drug.
  5. If it is not possible to use the previous method, and the room with the hornets' nest is sufficiently isolated from the other residential area, you can resort to another, very simple method, which may take a little longer. This also requires an insecticidal aerosol. The hornet agent is abundantly sprayed over the entire surface of the nest and inside it, and then left for a day. If the activity persists the next day, the procedure is repeated. You can remove the nest only after all individuals have died.
  6. After removing the nest, it is worth setting up traps designed to capture individual surviving individuals. You can make them from plastic bottles.

Trap

The trap can be made in different ways. Here is one of them:

  1. The upper quarter of the bottle is carefully cut off, the cap is unscrewed.
  2. Syrup or honey is poured into the lower part.
  3. Turn the cut part upside down and insert into the bottom part.

Alternatively, you can make a hole in the wall of one bottle and insert the cut off top of the other into it. Any sticky mixture with a sweet aroma is also poured inside.

If the nest is located in a place where there are no flammable materials, then you can get rid of the hornets by burning - for this you need to water it with gasoline or a kindling liquid, and then simply set it on fire. First, you should worry about extinguishing methods, and prepare a fire extinguisher or a bucket of water or sand.

Special means for dealing with hornets

How to effectively remove hornets in the country in the attic? The easiest way is to seek professional help. However, if there is no such opportunity or desire, a lot of means designed to fight insects at home come to the aid of a novice exterminator.

Among the means with which hornets are successfully poisoned are:

  • Dichlorvos is one of the most common insecticides. Sold as an aerosol. When applying, it is important to remember that it does not act instantly, and the hornet may well have time to sting, therefore, the processing of the nest must be done in a protective suit. For maximum efficiency, it is worthwhile to first put a bag on the socket and spray the drug in a confined space.
  • The executioner is a broad-spectrum insecticide. It is sold in liquid form as a concentrated solution, for use it must be diluted with warm water. Treat the nests with a spray gun.
  • Karbofos. The main advantage of this drug is that it is safe for humans. Before use, it must be diluted in water.
  • Preparations like Fosban, Dobrokhim Micro and Xulat containing chlorpyrifos. They can be sold in both liquid and powder form. Their main advantage is instant action. For successful use, it is necessary to process them directly on the socket.

Dichlorvos from wasps and hornets

Since most drugs are dangerous not only for insects and parasites, but also for humans, the recommended safety rules must be followed.

If possible, during the removal of insects, it is better to use not only a tight protective suit, but also a respirator or a breathing mask, and after treating the nest or premises with an insecticide, it is necessary to leave the territory as soon as possible so as not to cause irritation.

How can you corrode hornets under the roof

Sometimes the hornet's nest is located in a place where it is very difficult to get to. For example, under the very ceiling, at a decent height. In this case, destroying the nest is somewhat more difficult.

Important! A nest close to the ceiling must never be set on fire.

If the size of the nest allows, it can be drowned: a bucket of water is placed on the top step of the ladder, right under the nest. In this case, the bucket should abut the edges against the ceiling so that the hornets cannot escape. There should be enough water so that the nest is completely immersed in it. The structure is left for two to three days, during which the hornets will drown, and the nest can be easily destroyed.

Another effective method of destruction involves the use of a foamy carbon dioxide fire extinguisher. The nest is treated in the evening, and it is advisable to do this after the onset of cold weather.

Finally, insects can be effectively eradicated with the help of instant contact preparations containing chlorpyrifos (Fosban, Dobrokhim Micro and Ksulat).

Important! When destroying these insects from the ceiling, you must be careful and attentive. Do not use aerosol dispensers - they do not have an immediate effect and can also be toxic.

If there is no nest under the ceiling, but you need to get rid of several individuals, you can use the already mentioned traps from plastic bottles.

In the event that pest control actions did not bring the desired result, it is safer not to go through all the available drugs, but to seek help from professionals.
