Gardens and flower gardens have a perennial weed problem. How do gardeners construct paths between the beds, what do they cover so that the grass does not grow? This article provides information on how to get rid of the grass between the beds.

The paths between the beds - how to close them so that the grass does not grow

Partitions between the rows of seedlings should be done according to special rules and it is sometimes simply necessary to lay such structures. The right coating can solve a number of problems at the same time:

  • The inability to grow weed plants in the beds. Moreover, green pests spread their seeds to crops, making the cultivation of agricultural products an endless struggle.
  • Creation of a convenient zone for approaching the beds. Especially after rains, if you have coverage, you don't have to worry about having rubber boots.
  • The presence of special paths reduces water consumption, since moisture will evaporate less quickly through dense material than with open weeding land.
  • Improving comfort when working in the garden.
  • Achieving an aesthetically pleasing garden.

Weed removal

Varieties of tracks

There are many different materials from which walkways are constructed. In addition, there are a huge number of ways how to make these tracks.

Options:

  • self-made paths from sawdust;
  • backfilling with rubble;
  • mulching with cut grass;
  • plastic paths (sold ready-made in gardening stores).

Sawdust paths

Homemade sawdust partitions are one of the most economical ways to get rid of harmful plants for several years.

  1. First of all, all weeds are removed from the surface on which the cover is planned to be lined.
  2. After careful weeding, the soil is loosened with a rake, then leveled.
  3. Further, along the entire trajectory of the future track, paper is lined (newspapers can also come up from scrap materials).
  4. The final stage is laying out the sawdust, which must also be prepared in advance. The mixture should be dry and even, without too large inclusions.
  5. Then the resulting track is compacted with a shovel.

Important! Sawdust tends to oxidize the soil cover, so they are left to dry for a year. If the material is used immediately, then it is worth treating it with urea or ash (you can combine both tools).

Crushed stone paths

Filling with rubble - it is used for the same purposes as laying out sawdust. Crushed stone protects the land from weeds, and also prevents the soil from losing moisture, which is necessary to create the most favorable conditions for growing cultivated plants. The beds should be high, have partitions separating them from the protective paths. At the very beginning, the paths are reinforced with geotextile mesh. And only after such a procedure, gardeners sprinkle roads with construction rubble.

Important! Construction crushed stone is inexpensive, and the method of constructing tracks with such a material is extremely simple. They should strengthen the wide and long paths.

Backfilling with rubble

Mulching

Cutting grass mulching is an advantageous way to get rid of the grass between the beds.Mulching is carried out using various materials. The role of mulch can be used:

  • weeds;
  • lawn grass;
  • shavings and chips;
  • fallen leaves;
  • cones;
  • sawdust;
  • peat;
  • humus or compost.

Mulch in the form of mowed grass will help create paths without grass in the country. Many summer residents are wondering how to fill the paths between the beds so that the grass does not grow. After mowing the lawn, there is grass that is excellent for mulching. The main thing is to dry the cut grass before placing it. If the installation is carried out immediately after mowing, the grass will turn into an airtight layer, which will ruin the process of growing plants. Laying a layer of mown grass on the paths is not so difficult, it is done in about the same way as with sawdust.

Ready-made tracks made of plastic

Ready-made plastic rubber tracks have several advantages:

  • frost resistance;
  • moisture permeability;
  • non-slip surface;
  • will last about 10 years.

Important! You can put agrofibre on the paths. But it needs to be covered with sawdust.

Ready tracks

Paving slabs are also a good option. It is stable and durable.

Grass sprouted from under the rubble

Covering materials that are placed under the rubble to control weeds:

  • Mulching fiber is a black and white material, with the black side down, the white side up. The white surface reflects the sun's rays and allows plants to grow faster.
  • Agrofibre - allows water to pass through, mold does not appear under it, protects the earth from drying out.

The non-woven material prevents weeds from growing between individual areas, and is water permeable. Light canvases with low density cover the beds for protection from the cold. The most dense materials protect well from weeds.

Materials for flower beds

What to do if weeds grow in flower beds? At the very beginning, you must carefully weed the flower beds. And after that, apply one of the three optimal ways to protect against weeds:

  • You can cover the area with non-woven material, which perfectly protects against weeds. A non-woven protective layer is spread on the surface of the flower bed, after which slots are made in it, in which it is necessary to plant plants or flowers. You also need to mask the non-woven protective layer with dump. When protecting flower beds, you can use different types of non-woven materials - agrofibre, mulching double-sided or one-sided dense fiber.
  • A more economical option could be considered using newspapers. After planting the plants, the soil between the shoots is covered with two or three layers of newspapers. Newspapers are covered with filling.
  • The third option is backfilling with mulch. You can use sawdust, straw, peat and fallen leaves as mulch. But we must not forget that the mulch must be dried, this must be done extremely carefully. Otherwise, poorly dried mulch will harm the flowers.

There are a huge number of protective materials on the market. But besides these, there are many homemade options that are also very popular among gardeners. It is only important to remember that you need to take care of the beds regularly. If the garden is not running, then weed control will not be difficult.
