Boric acid is very often used as a remedy for all sorts of pests that settle both in residential premises and in a garden plot. Also, seeds and soil are treated with boric acid. There are many simple, but highly effective recipes, which are based on this component, which acts in a short time.

Harm from red ants

A feature of red ants is cohesion, in contrast to black ones. One colony contains several nests, the queen can be one or more than one. If any nest is endangered or completely destroyed, this place is populated by relatives who quickly restore the destroyed dwelling.

Since colonies of red ants prefer to settle in a residential or suburban area remote from the city, they can be found in places such as:

  • the foundation of the house;
  • behind the stove;
  • behind an electric heater;
  • behind the wallpaper;
  • warehouse space;
  • pantry.

Note. Since the red ant species, like the black one, is active throughout the year, during the cold season they need warm, humid conditions in a dark room, which is why they settle in house buildings.

Harm from red ants

Red ants are also called pharaoh ants. They are considered omnivores that do not enter into symbiosis with aphids. However, they bring significant harm to the property, settling in a house with a personal plot, eating a lot of useful vegetation, and also living in the residential building itself.

As food inside the living quarters for ants, as a rule, they serve:

  • power supply;
  • water supply;
  • leather clothes;
  • rubbish;
  • woven fabrics;
  • paper;
  • wood;
  • food products.

Due to the omnivorous nature, a person often becomes a victim of the bites of red ants. Since these insects are able to quickly adapt to an unfavorable environment, getting rid of them is a very difficult process. In addition, they can be brought into the premises of an apartment building, for example, on clothes.

How to deal with red ants

First of all, it is necessary to clean the room, thereby creating unfavorable living conditions for these pests. To do this, the ants are denied access to food by closing garbage bags, removing crumbs from the table, and cleaning the stove and floors.

In addition, the storage room, closet and sheds should be put in order, with a rearrangement there.

One anthill consists of several nests. Pouring boiling water over the discovered underground passage and filling it up may lead to the creation of another bypass route. After the destruction of the dwelling, it can come to life again within a month.

How to deal with red ants

The most effective way to get rid of ants is "Combat". This drug is used to poison baits. Ants carry the poisonous substance into the home, exterminating all individuals. After a while, all nests become infected. The advantage of the "Combat" is its safety for animals, as well as its closure with a special housing, in which there is a shallow passage only for ants.

Note! The use of magnetic and noise repellents against red ants is not the most effective help; it is better to use some folk method.

You can save a residential building, a personal plot and a barn by marking the perimeter of the territory and the path using the following means:

  • freshly picked plants;
  • infusions;
  • dried plants;
  • concentrated decoctions;
  • essential oils;
  • flavors.

There is a significant list of smells that can scare away red ants:

  1. garlic;
  2. lavender;
  3. onion peel;
  4. spicy;
  5. red pepper;
  6. wormwood;
  7. black pepper;
  8. stale citrus fruits;
  9. elderberry;
  10. mint;
  11. acetic;
  12. sunflower oil;
  13. essential oil.

Useful information. Red ants can eat smoked meats, ash and soot.

Spreading garlic, pepper, wormwood, or vinegar on the walls and floors can help prevent these pests.

Using boric acid for destruction

Cooking a poison based on boric acid against ants in the garden is considered the most popular folk way to eliminate ants, which transmit a poisonous substance to each other through physical contact, starting to eat it.

There is more than one step-by-step recipe on how to make a poisonous bait that contains boric acid:

  1. Boric acid from ants in the garden and sugar are mixed in equal quantities and laid out on paper;
  2. 10 grams of boric acid, 3 boiled yolks and 2 medium boiled potatoes are mixed in equal proportions with the addition of a spoonful of sugar. From the resulting mixture, small lumps are formed and laid out in the necessary places;
  3. Any kind of meat or minced meat is mixed with borax in a ratio of 20: 1;
  4. Boiled or raw fish is mixed with brown in the amount of 20: 1;
  5. Mixed glass of water with 3 tablespoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of honey and ⅓ teaspoon of boric acid are poured into small bowls.

The poison should be spread along the ant passages in the country, near the basement and baseboard.

Other ant control methods

There are a number of folk and industrial remedies on how to get rid of ants at home in the garden.

The list of folk remedies includes the following recipes:

  • Sprinkle dried chamomile along the ant passages. You can also treat the floor surface with a concentrated infusion of this component. Chamomile is poured into ant nests;
  • Mix the minced meat and a little borax, and then spread it in places where insects accumulate, away from pets;
  • If ants appeared not so long ago, you can rub the ant paths with a clove of garlic, and pour garlic juice into the nests.

In addition, you can process the table legs or a garbage bucket with a solution of oil or use some types of raw materials for sprinkling ant trails:

  • sagebrush;
  • anise;
  • cloves;
  • mint;
  • citrus;
  • vegetable oil.
  • A small proportion of the yeast is diluted in water that is slightly above room temperature. Mix the yeast with granulated sugar or jam, and then put the mixture in lids, which are subsequently placed on the floor. Ants bring poison with yeast to the nest, after which the entire colony dies;
  • A mixture of water, honey, glycerin and borax, taken in equal amounts, also kills ants;
  • Add honey or jam to boric acid and wait until it enters the nest;
  • Mix mashed potatoes with boiled yolks, boric acid and granulated sugar and spread out next to ant paths, in the corners of rooms, under the table, near a bucket of garbage, excluding access to liquid;
  • Set up a glue trap or a container of sweetened water.

Boric acid use

The list of industrial products includes:

  • traps with an adhesive surface inside, on which pests are kept, or with bait in the form of a poison transferred into the nests, as well as electrical;
  • highly toxic aerosols sprayed into nests and other habitats of ants;
  • gels arranged as droplets along the dotted line;
  • powders with special pencils - however, this is not the most effective remedy for use at home or in the garden.

Note. You can also get rid of an ant colony by moistening a cloth in a solution of carbolic acid and spreading it around the circumference of the anthill (or wrap a tree or bush around the trunk).The action of this method is based on scaring away pests with a sharp unpleasant odor, the occurrence of which will force the ants to leave the inhabited place.

Fighting by destroying the anthill

If it is possible to dig up the anthill or remove it in a separate container, it is recommended to use this method. Often, the location of the passages is located in the depths, which does not allow getting to the focus of the colony accumulation. In such a situation, the correct option is to sprinkle the mounds of ants and paths with baking soda.

It should be noted that soda does not have a harmful effect on the soil, lowering its acidity level. Ash and quicklime are also suitable for this purpose. In this way, you should periodically process your garden plot with ants.

An effective method of how to get rid of ants at home in the beds is the destruction of the anthill by mechanical means, digging it up and then spilling it with hot water.

Useful information. When a colony of ants is found on a strawberry ridge (they usually occupy an outlet near the root system), it is unacceptable to use the method of mechanical destruction. In this case, the anthill is spilled with essence in a concentration of 30 grams of flaxseed oil with 5 grams of baking soda, diluted in one liter of water.

There are many methods available to help control pests such as indoor red ants. However, some of them must be used with caution, as they can harm the health of humans or pets. In particular, you should be careful when working with chemicals.
