Recently, more and more domestic agronomists want to grow an attractive lawn on their personal plot. On it, undoubtedly, everyone has a desire to run barefoot or lie down on a sunny summer day. In order for the grass to have an attractive appearance, it is required to follow all the rules for caring for it, namely: watering, mowing correctly, fertilizing, and also producing aeration to saturate the soil with moisture and air.

Lawn aeration: a description of what is carried out

The main task of aeration is to perforate the soil with small holes so that nutrients, moisture and air can better penetrate into it and saturate the root system of plants. Thanks to aeration, the root system deepens into the soil, producing a beautiful and stable sod.

Lawn aeration

It is necessary to aerate the area in the following cases:

  • The lawn is subjected to impressive physical stress.
  • The turf was erected shortly after the construction works. In this case, as a rule, the soil thickens, which prevents the normal development of the mixtures.
  • Straw from withered grass also disrupts air and water exchange.

Important!Pressed soils are very dense, which prevents the normal circulation of plants necessary for the life of the plant. Experiencing a deficiency of moisture, air and chemical elements, the grass withers and loses its decorative properties.

DIY lawn aeration: rules

If an agronomist decides to scarify using an aerator, he should pay attention to the following:

  • During the procedure, the soil should be well moistened. The best time to ventilate is shortly after rain or watering.
  • The aerator should be walked several times on the site, up and down. Particular attention is paid to problem areas.
  • After aeration, all agrotechnical rules must be followed in the same way as before.

How many times aeration is carried out

You should not abuse the procedure. During the growing season, it is sufficient to produce aeration no more than once every three weeks. For the first time, it is recommended to ventilate in late May - early June, then, based on the state of the lawn.

Note!Aeration should not be carried out in the fall shortly before the onset of frost, the plants may not recover.

Lawn piercing: how to do it

This procedure is one of the types of aeration. It is recommended to carry out it in early autumn, the depth of penetration into the compacted soil is at least 8 cm. For the procedure, mechanical aerators, ordinary garden forks or hollow teeth are used.

This process is extremely laborious, therefore it is carried out only in problem areas, where, for example, moisture accumulates or the grass turns brown.

Scarify the lawn - what is it, the connection with aeration, the difference

Scarification of the lawn in summer - uniform cutting of soil layers. A scarifier is an automated equipment that plunges metal massive knives into the ground. They systematically damage the root system of plants, which promotes the activation of regeneration processes, and also removes moss and plant residues. Compared to aeration, this is a more effective procedure, it increases the density of the lawn grass.

If you neglect the rules of care, the agronomist will not be able to contemplate an attractive lively and colorful dense carpet on his site. Plants are deficient in nutrients, oxygen and moisture, which inevitably leads to their wilting and death. It is much more difficult to restore the lawn cover than to maintain it systematically at the proper level.
