Interest in growing tomatoes is only growing every year. Many people want to grow quality tomatoes, have a rich harvest and enjoy the taste of tomatoes as early as possible. Hence the increased interest in early maturing varieties. There are many varieties, varieties and hybrids of early ripening tomatoes. Early ripening tomatoes are able to quickly form a crop in the first month of fruiting.

The first early variety is the Son of a Hero tomato. Tomato Son of the Hero belongs to the earliest varieties and is intended for growing in the open field. A hybrid of this tomato variety was named Prokhor. Tomato Prokhor is similar to the Son of a Hero tomato in terms of characteristics and description of the variety.

Tomato Prokhor characteristics and description of the variety

Tomato Prokhor F1 is a hybrid resistant to temperature extremes. Even with a sharp change in weather, the variety gives a rich harvest. It belongs to the group of all-weather tomatoes with a persistent and hardy character.

Bushes of the Prokhor variety are wide and spreading. The growth of the bush is unlimited, because the variety is indeterminate. The bush is approximately 60 cm high.

Important! The Prokhor variety is intended for open field cultivation.

Gardeners especially appreciate the Prokhor tomato for its high level of vitaminization. They are capable of accumulating large amounts of antioxidants and vitamins.

The variety loves light and warmth, very easily exposed to frost.

Sowing for seedlings begins in early March, 50-60 days before planting in the ground. Dive into small pots or containers. Planted in the ground no earlier than May. A distance of 50-60 cm is maintained between the bushes. Before the onset of warm weather, they must be covered with a film.

Fruits appear 70-80 days after planting in the ground. Ripe fruits are red. The weight of one tomato is up to 150 gr.

The yield level is quite high. Up to 5 kg of harvest is obtained from one bush in one season. With good care, the weight of the crop can reach 10 kg. The tomato stands out for its taste, has a juicy pulp.

Growing stages

From March 15 to April 5, seeds are sown for seedlings. The later the seedlings are sown, the better they will grow and develop.

Important! It is important to use good quality soil for seedlings. It is recommended that the composition contains up to 30% peat and about 10% vermicompost.

Tomato seeds Prokhor are planted in seedling containers. Fine charcoal is placed on the bottom as drainage. The seeds are immersed to a depth of 1 cm, a distance of 3-5 cm is maintained between the seeds. The soil is moistened with a solution of potassium permanganate. Containers with seedlings are covered with foil to form a greenhouse effect. The seedlings are stored at a temperature of 28-30 degrees. Because the variety is a hybrid, it is more demanding in warm conditions.

Shoots appear in 5-7 weeks. At this time, hardening is carried out by placing the seedlings in a cooler room with a temperature of 15-18 degrees. This technique will improve the development of the plant's root system.

After 2 weeks, the seedlings dive. Each sprout is planted in individual containers. In each individual pot, fine charcoal is necessarily placed on the bottom. The soil for seedlings is fertilized with phosphorus, boron and potassium. The container is half filled with soil. The roots of the seedlings are completely immersed in the ground so that no air spaces are formed. The soil is watered with warm water. The break between watering is 5 days.

After 50 days, the seedlings are ready for planting in open ground. The soil outside should warm up to 14-16 degrees.

The soil is prepared for planting. Potassium sulfate, ammonium sulfate, sulfur and nitrogen fertilizer are added to the soil. Fertilized soil must be loosened and grooves prepared for planting. A furrow 20-30 cm wide and 15-20 cm deep is required. The intervals between the beds should be maintained at a distance of 70 cm. Immediately before planting, the furrow is watered abundantly with warm water. Seedlings are planted at a distance of about 50 cm from each other.

Each seedling is placed in the ground at an angle of 45 degrees and covered with earth. For better compaction, the earth is watered.

The first watering is carried out no earlier than 10 days later. Fertilize the soil with ammonium sulfate. Due to the fact that it contains sulfur and nitrogen, sulphate is a source of building material for the appearance of an ovary and conducts prevention against diseases. The warmer the air temperature, the more often you need to water and fertilize.

Note.To obtain larger fruits, it is necessary to form the plant growth into one stem. All appendages on the tomato stem are removed. The plant forms flowers and true leaves within 7 days. During this period, it needs abundant feeding.

After fertilization, the tomatoes are spud. Thanks to hilling, the plant develops the root system better and receives moisture and additional nutrition from the soil.

With proper care, in 2 months it will be possible to harvest the first tomato crop and enjoy its tomato flavor.

Pros and cons

Consumers note the advantages and disadvantages of each variety. But for some, one characteristic may refer to a positive quality, and for others, a negative one. Therefore, the pros and cons of the variety are quite subjective.

Advantages:

  • Early maturity;
  • Growth in open field;
  • Good productivity;
  • Ability to withstand temperature extremes and bear fruit even in cold summers.

Disadvantages:

  • Not a pronounced taste;
  • High requirements for soil quality;
  • Regular feeding.

Tomato variety Prokhor can be compared with another well-known variety - Manzherok. Tomato Manzherok is also a hybrid of early ripening. Manzherok tomatoes are also grown in the open field. The fruits of this variety are distinguished by a more pronounced tomato flavor. The variety is resistant to a complex of diseases, has a high yield and excellent taste.

Tomato Prokhor does not tolerate transportation well, it is not stored for a long time, it is better to eat it immediately from the garden. But Prokhor tomatoes will delight in the middle of summer, are well suited for preparing vegetable salads, and are recommended for fresh consumption.
