Between varietal tomatoes and hybrids, many summer residents choose the latter, because it is much easier to grow them, and the fruits are more resistant to diseases and have an increased yield. One of the popular hybrids in our beds is Polfast.

General information about culture

Polfast tomatoes are a hybrid crop that breeders have bred from Holland, the originator is the company "Bejo Zaden". According to the description, these tomatoes are recommended for growing, both in open beds and under cover. This type of tomato is included in the State Register of Russia for orchards and vegetable gardens, home gardens and small farms. These are very resistant hybrids that can bear fruit successfully in conditions that are unfavorable for conventional varietal tomatoes.

Characteristics and features of the variety

Frosts for Polfast tomatoes are not scary, since the fruits have time to ripen before the onset of cold weather. This variety belongs to the early maturing varieties, tomatoes are ready for consumption 90-95 days after germination. The plant blooms with medium-sized yellow flowers usual for tomatoes, collected in simple inflorescences, small ovaries are formed in their place. Pollination occurs independently, without the participation of bees. The ovary forms even at fairly cool temperatures, so fruiting does not depend on the vagaries of nature.

Tomato Polfast (variety appearance)

Note.Polfast's bush is strong, powerful and dense, but compact (therefore, you can plant them only half a meter apart). Forcing them is small, about 0.6 meters (if the plant is sufficiently provided with moisture), and in closed greenhouses - about 0.4 meters. The foliage is medium in size (sometimes it grows to large numbers), light green in color, the green mass is quite moderate. The root system is branched and strong.

The fruits of this type of tomato are round, slightly ribbed. The peel is deep, bright red in ripening fruits and green in immature fruits. Halffast tomatoes are quite large - each of them exceeds a hundred grams, and giants of 150 grams can grow on stems of small height. Their peel is elastic and strong, it does not burst even after significant waterlogging after rains. The pulp is small-seeded, dense, slightly watery. Tomato has a rich taste, moderately sweet, therefore it is recommended even for baby food, and Polfast is also very rich in vitamins, organic sugars and minerals. These tomatoes are used raw (mainly in salads) and processed to:

  • tomato juice;
  • soups;
  • second courses;
  • sauces and ketchups;
  • salting for the winter;
  • marinades.

The yield of this hybrid is quite good - the figure is about 6 kilograms per square meter of the garden. Fruits ripen rather quickly, in clusters, on average, five pieces. Taken from the bush in an unripe form, Polfast tomatoes ripen in a few days at the proper temperature (from 22 to 25 degrees) and change color from green to bright red. They can also be well stored and easily transported over long distances, since the skin of the fruit is strong enough and does not crack.

Agricultural technology of cultivation

Tomato Polfast belongs to the early ones, therefore it is recommended to grow it through forcing seedlings. It makes no sense to additionally disinfect hybrid seeds purchased in specialized stores, since they have already been processed.Planting in seedling containers should be carried out no earlier than mid-March; it is also not necessary to soak the seeds. For future tomatoes, a nutritious earthen mixture from garden soil and humus is suitable. You can supplement it with river sand (you must first wash it) and wood ash. In a prepared high-quality substrate, small (no more than a couple of centimeters) holes are made, seeds are lowered there, sprinkled with clean water at room temperature and covered with a film for a while to create a greenhouse effect, for better germination it is necessary to create a temperature of 24 to 26 degrees Celsius.

Important! Deeper immersion of the planting material in the substrate can delay seed germination or even interfere with it.

After the first shoots appear, the temperature can be reduced, and the shoots can be provided with plenty of sunlight. If it is not enough, you can use fluorescent lamps. A pick (seating in different containers) is carried out after the appearance of a pair of the first true leaves. At the same time, it is advisable to feed the seedlings with mineral fertilizers based on potassium and phosphorus - they help the development of full-fledged roots, promote early opening of inflorescences and better ripening of fruits.

Tomato seedlings Halffast

In general, the seedlings of this variety are quite unpretentious, they develop even in conditions of a lack of moisture and heat.

You should not delay planting seedlings in the ground, since tomatoes of this type bear fruit early enough. They grow well on different types of soil, the main thing is that they are rich in humus and not too acidic. Planting on the beds is carried out in such a way that the distance between adjacent bushes is at least 0.5 meters (in greenhouses - 0.2-0.3 meters), the maximum planting density is 8 tomatoes per 1 sq. meter. The sprout is placed in a prepared hole, 0.2 meters deep, and filled with water.

Additional Information. To protect the root system from insect pests, protective films can be applied. As it takes root and adapts, the tomato bush begins to grow. When planting, you should not make organic fertilizing, otherwise all the vitality of the tomato will go to the formation of lush foliage, and not future tomatoes. In addition, the risk of contracting fungal diseases increases.

In general, in the description, Polfast Tomatoes have immunity to most diseases characteristic of nightshades. However, it is still desirable to carry out preventive spraying against fungi and viruses. You can use a weak solution of potassium permanganate or the composition "Fitosporin". If there is a suspicion of late blight disease, the plants should be immediately treated with copper-based preparations.

Periodic loosening of the beds, weeding of weeds, and, of course, abundant (but not excessive) moisture of the soil will also help the full development and maturation of an excellent harvest.

Note! Watering should only be done in warm weather, not in direct sunlight. At elevated air temperatures, the plant is watered once every couple of days directly under the root part. Watering and fertilizing should be stopped half a month before harvesting the fruits.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Tomato Polfast has an excellent characteristic and description of the variety, it is practically devoid of disadvantages. Is that the annual need for gardeners to purchase seeds in specialized stores, because Polfast is a hybrid and does not give its full-fledged seed material.

The list of positive qualities of these bright scarlet tomatoes is quite large:

  • fast ripening of fruits - no more than two months pass from the moment of emergence of seedlings to market readiness of tomatoes;
  • the variety is resistant to most diseases affecting tomatoes: these are fusarium, verticillosis and others;
  • the bush is compact enough, rather easily formed;
  • cultivation is possible, both in open and closed soil;
  • high taste qualities of fruits and sugar content, which make it possible to recommend tomatoes of this variety for baby food;
  • immunity to temperature drop and prolonged anhydrous period;
  • perfectly tolerates transportation.

Bright red, with a dense skin, resistant to unfavorable conditions and giving a bountiful harvest in a short time, tomatoes of the Dutch hybrid variety Polfast are an excellent choice for vegetable growers in various regions of the country of Russia, especially in cool zones.
