Agrofirm "Gavrish" decided to go for an original move and developed a series of seeds called "Russian Bogatyr". It includes seeds of various vegetables and berries: carrots, tomatoes, peppers, radishes, onions, strawberries, watermelon and others. The first batch of seeds grew successfully and brought a rich harvest. All fruits were distinguished by their large size and rich taste. After that, the company decided to continue the production of "heroic" seeds.

Tomatoes from the “Russian Bogatyr” series were named Sloan. Elephants were distinguished by their large size and unpretentious care.

Characteristics and description of the variety of tomato Orange Elephant

Tomato variety Orange Elephant is one of the varieties of the Elephant variety. It was bred by breeders from the Gavrish company in Moscow in 2011. The variety is quite young, but very popular thanks to its predecessors.

Note! The variety is specially bred for cultivation in greenhouse conditions. Experienced breeders can try outdoor tomato cultivation in the southern regions of the country.

Tomato variety Orange mid-season. The label on the package says that the ripening period is from 100 to 120 days.

The plant is determinate, has limited growth. According to the description on the package, the stem reaches a height of about 70 cm.

They begin to prepare seedlings at the end of March, dive at the time when the plant begins to form the first true leaves. The final planting in the ground is done at the end of May. The bushes are highly leafy, when planting between the bushes they keep a fairly large distance.

The free space between the bushes should be 40-60 cm. A garter is required so that the bush does not break under the load of heavy ripe fruits. For enrichment with vitamins and better growth, it is necessary to feed and fertilize.

Large-fruited plant. Fruits are flat-rounded, irregular in shape, orange color. Tomatoes are firm and firm, with a smooth and thin skin.

On a note: Opanzhevy hue is achieved due to the high content of carotene, which is rich in this variety. Carotene strengthens the immune system, improves vision, skin and bones.

The weight of one fruit, on average, is 250-300 grams. Some tomatoes can weigh up to half a kilogram. The pulp is dense, but tender, fleshy, with a sweetish tomato flavor. The varietal difference is long-term fruiting. If you remove the fruits in time, you can increase the harvest and extend it for a long time. From 5 to 7 large tomatoes can grow on a bush at a time. The yield of one bush per season is from 4 to 5 kg.

The fruits go to salads. Tomatoes of the Orange Elephant variety are best suited for making tomato juice, sauces, ketchups, pastes.

Agrotechnics

Seeds for seedlings begin to be prepared for planting two to three months before the planned planting in the ground. Planting in the ground, as a rule, is done in June, which means that seeds are sown in spring, in March. Sowing earlier will not yield a positive result. But it all depends on the climate of each specific region separately. It is necessary that a regular temperature of about 20 degrees is established outside during the day.

Deep containers with drainage holes, a lid and a tray will be an excellent container for sowing.

Important! The land to be sown is carefully prepared. Add humus, wood ash, river sand and mix thoroughly until a homogeneous mass is obtained. Ready-made earthen mixtures can be purchased at specialized stores.

The best germination is given by seeds harvested 2 years ago. Before immersing the seeds in the ground, it is necessary to put them in a solution of potassium permanganate for 30 minutes. In this way, the seeds are disinfected, and weak seeds will sink to the bottom. Such seeds will not sprout, they are not suitable for sowing.

The treated seeds are immersed in the soil to a depth of 1-2 cm. It is necessary to maintain a distance between the seeds of 2-3 cm for better germination. From above, the seeds are sprinkled with earth and watered with warm water. Containers must be kept closed to maintain moisture.

Note! It is required to store seedlings in a warm place, the optimum temperature for tomato seeds is 18-20 degrees. It is not recommended to open the container, only for watering the soil.

Small shoots appear in 7-10 days. At this time, hardening can be carried out: move the seedlings to a cool room with a temperature of 15-17 degrees for 5-6 days. Crops need abundant watering with warm water and intense light. It is not advisable for the soil to become waterlogged, but it should not dry out, forming a crust. Water is sprayed with a spray gun, and not poured in a stream, breaking the earthen mixture.

The dive is performed after the appearance of two true leaves. The seedlings are carefully dug out so as not to damage the stem. The central root is shortened by more than half. The plant is transplanted into a deeper container to a depth of 4-5 cm, sprinkled with earth, watered and left in a shaded place for 2-3 days.

Ripe fruit of orange elephant tomato

Tomato Orange Elephant is a thermophilic variety, therefore, before planting in the ground, you need to make sure that the soil temperature is set at 18 degrees. The beginning of June is the most suitable time for planting.

Important! For planting, holes are dug in the ground, a cube with sides of 20 cm. For better growth, a crushed shell is placed on the bottom of the hole, which will feed the roots with calcium.

It is necessary to plant bushes at intervals of 40-50 cm. For one square. m there will be approximately 2-3 seedlings.

Growing roots require abundant watering. Use only warm water for watering. After each watering, it is necessary to loosen the soil, remove weeds. The plant must be fed regularly once every two to three weeks.

If the bushes grow strongly upward, the lower lateral stems must be pinned. The richest harvest will bring a bush with one stem. As the fruit develops, the bushes must be tied to supports so that the weighty tomatoes do not break the stem.

Advantages and disadvantages

All plant varieties have their own pros and cons.

Advantages of Tomato Orange Elephant:

  • Large heavy fruit;
  • Long-term fruiting;
  • Resistance to temperature changes and adaptation to any climate;
  • Disease immunity;
  • High content of a whole complex of vitamins.

For someone, these or those characteristics may not seem positive, but negative qualities: for example, some gardeners consider the large size of the fruit to be a disadvantage.

If you grow all types of elephant tomatoes on the site, you get not only decorative beautiful beds, but also a crop that is incredibly healthy and rich in all vitamins.
