Tomatoes are among the most popular in all regions. Tomato King of Kings is grown by many farmers and is called one of the best varieties. The hybrid was bred at the Vavilov Institute. The grade is intended for protected ground. It tastes good, but for a decent harvest, it needs care. Compared with other varieties, it is a little more difficult with these tomatoes, but the result will pay off any work.

Characteristics and varietal characteristics

  • The stem does not stop growing after the formation of flowers and ovary. It can reach four meters, so it must be limited artificially, otherwise it will be difficult to harvest;
  • Garter needed. This works well in a greenhouse where tall stature and long shoots are needed. Trellises are installed in the field;
  • Tomatoes King - juicy variety with thin skin. They are eaten, but when stored in jars, they can be salted unevenly. It is better to pickle it;
  • Differs in high productivity, and in greenhouse conditions there are more fruits. Even beginners are happy with the result;
  • Very well stored and transported;
  • More pests can be damaged in fields than in a greenhouse. They are resistant to late blight, which often occurs in indoor spaces.

Tomato King of Kings

The main thing that distinguishes the tomato King from other varieties is the large-sized King tomato. Their mass is from half a kilogram to a kilogram. Truly a giant among tomatoes. About 5 kilograms are collected from one shoot. The Tomato King belongs to the late varieties, they ripen 115 days after planting. They mature much better under film than in polycarbonate greenhouses.

Agrotechnics

Seeds are worth buying from stores as they are a proven way to get good planting material. Still, it will not be superfluous to check the integrity of the bag, as well as to find out from the seller: whether there was pre-treatment for disinfection purposes. If not, you need to do it yourself. The seeds are soaked in a pale manganese solution for disinfection, and then in a growth stimulator.

Seeds varieties

The soil should be good, it will be more profitable to buy ready-made soil, specially designed for tomatoes, but you can prepare it yourself.

Prepare the soil for tomatoes in the fall. You can store it in a box on the street. In winter, thanks to frost, all bacteria will die, and the earth will be ready for planting tomatoes. The mixture is prepared independently from earth, compost and humus, taking equal parts of each component. Ash, potassium sulfate and superphosphate can be added.

The soil should be loose and saturated with nutrients. The moisture level and the correct acidity are important.

Important information! It is not worth planting seeds of the King of Kings variety after potatoes, peppers, eggplants, and also physalis.

In addition to the soil, you need to think about the conditions in which the tomatoes will grow. To get healthy early seedlings, they should be as follows:

  1. In the room set aside for seedlings, the air must be constantly warmed up to 25 degrees;
  2. The required air humidity is maintained at 55-70 percent;
  3. Additional lighting is used, especially if it is not possible to arrange the seedlings on the south side. For this, fluorescent lamps with a power of 40 watts are installed. Additional light is needed for 8 hours a day.The height of the light bulbs above the landing is approximately 10 cm.

How to care for seedlings

Before planting on open terrain, an intermediate stage is required for the correct maintenance of seedlings:

  • Water every 4 days after germination, then watering can be done a little less often, it all depends on the drying of the soil. If it is slightly dry, then moisture is required. At the same time, it is advisable not to touch the leaves, watering over the stem;
  • With proper soil preparation, they are fed only 1-2 times. Fertilizer is prepared from mullein infusion, or you can buy ready-made fertilizer;
  • The soil is pre-hardened two weeks before planting the seeds. This is in order to get high yields in the future. The sprouts are also hardened, but after the formation of 4-5 leaves. The boxes or containers are taken out to a room with a lower temperature for a short time, increasing the duration of the procedure every day.

Landing in the ground

Transplanting seedlings to a garden bed after 60-70 days should take place on a day without precipitation, but cloudy. Sprouts are planted after 40-50 cm.

Important! When growing, the plant needs to be pinned, weeded and tied to trellises or other supports in a timely manner.

Watering

The Tomato King in the garden is watered when the need arises, but approximately every 3-4 days. You need warm water, pour it under the root. Moisture should not get on the leaves due to the possibility of fungal development.

Loosening and weeding

As is the case with other crops, they weed every time after watering and immediately loosened. At first, you need to loosen it not very deeply, without damaging the small roots. As you grow, hilling is added to these operations.

Stepping

It is one of the main conditions for getting a good harvest. Pinching consists in pinching the tops, starting from the lower stems. It is recommended to do this procedure 2-3 times during the entire growth period.

Garter

Royal Tomatoes need a garter for a number of reasons:

  • Increased reception of the necessary sunlight and ventilation;
  • Prevention of bush breaking with a significant weight of ripe tomatoes;
  • On the ground, fruits are more easily affected by pests.

Tied up with:

  • Wire on the frame;
  • Stakes;
  • Horizontal and vertical trellis;
  • Grids;
  • Fences.

Tomato variety King of Kings is best tied using a horizontal trellis that holds the plant and prevents damage to the fruit. Wooden stakes are dug in, and a rope is pulled between them.

Top dressing

Every two weeks tomato King needs to be fed with complex fertilizers. You can buy fertilizers in the store or on the market, as well as make a tincture of nettle at home, which contains vitamins and helps to strengthen the plant's immunity.

Pests and diseases

Tomato King can be susceptible to diseases:

  • Fungus on the leaves in the form of brown spots. The spots grow over time, and the leaves dry out completely. Macrosporiosis is called;
  • Infection with brown stripes on the stem and spots of the same color on the leaves and petioles. Name - tomato streak;
  • Another fungus, but with watery spots on the fruit. Tomatoes are rotting and covered in white mold. This is the so-called gray rot;
  • With weakened roots, in the absence of phosphorus, foliage curls, and a physiological disease occurs.

Harvest: collection and storage

Harvest well in the morning, after the dew has dried. The tomato can also ripen at home in a dark place.

Attention! The absence of a green rim around the stalk indicates full ripening of the tomato.

You need to store the crop in wooden boxes, in a room with ventilation, at low temperatures up to +6 degrees. Tomatoes are washed, wiped and stacked tightly in rows. So they can lie and not lose their properties for up to two months.

Disadvantages and advantages of the variety

When creating this new hybrid, all the necessary properties of various varieties were taken into account, therefore it has a number of advantages:

  • High productivity;
  • Good shelf life and transportability;
  • Excellent taste;
  • Disease resistance.

The variety is called unpretentious, the main thing is to properly care for it. The variety has not so many disadvantages, since it appeared not so long ago:

  • Large fruits cannot be preserved whole;
  • High price.

If the rules for agricultural practices are followed and the plant receives the necessary care, the risk of disease or death of tomatoes is small. And although it is not entirely easy to grow the King of Kings in the open field, even a beginner can do it, having invested the necessary diligence in planting.
