Many gardeners grow on the garden plot not only large-fruited tomatoes, but also varieties with small fruits intended for harvesting for the winter. The latter includes the Raisin tomato, which is ideal for whole-fruit canning and other varieties.

Tomato Zest was bred and registered in 2008. Its "parent" is the Moscow agrofirm "Aelita", which has been present on the Russian market for over 20 years, and its products have gained significant popularity among the country's gardeners.

Varietal characteristics

In order to determine the place of planting Zest tomatoes, you need to familiarize yourself with the characteristics and description of this variety.

Characteristics of the variety Raisin

  • Cold resistance - average. This variety does not tolerate sharp fluctuations in temperature and its decrease, therefore, in regions with a cold climate, it is grown in greenhouses: in greenhouses or greenhouses.
  • Bush growth... Depending on the planting site, the height of the plant can reach from 50 cm (for open ground) to 60 cm (in the greenhouse). Spreading, medium-sized, dark-leafed shrubs have a strong root system.
  • Disease resistance... The zest is practically not affected by tobacco mosaic and fusarium.
  • Ripening terms - early. Already 80 days after the emergence of sprouts, the fruits are fully ripe.
  • Bloom - friendly, therefore the yield is fast. When planting bushes in protected ground, they are periodically shaken during flowering for pollination.
  • Fruit - elongated, heart-shaped red-pink color. The weight of one fruit is no more than 50 g. The taste is sweet, dessert.
  • Yield... The variety is considered fruitful - up to 5 kg of medium-sized tomatoes can be harvested from one plant per season.

Important! Many people confuse tomato Raisin with Raisin. Despite the fact that their names are very similar, the characteristics of these species differ: Tomatoes Raisins are tall plants with small cherry tomatoes.

Features of agricultural technology

When growing Raisins, one should be guided by the basic rules of planting and care for tomatoes, but at the same time take into account some of the features of the agricultural technology of this variety.

Planting and leaving

  1. Sparse landing pattern. Since the Raisin bushes are spreading determinants, they need to leave more space, so the distance between neighboring seedlings is at least 0.5 m.A double-row tape and checkerboard planting pattern is preferable: in the greenhouse they will save space, and in the open field with the threat of a drop in temperature it is convenient to install temporary shelters.
  2. Support organization or garter. It is important to think in advance about the support structure for tomato bushes, as they break under the weight of their own fruits. Both in the greenhouse and in the open field, you need to organize either individual supports, or tie them to a trellis.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Zest tomatoes have gained wide popularity among Russian summer residents due to:

  • strong skin of fruits, which does not allow them to crack in salting and contributes to excellent indicators of keeping quality (storage) and transportability;
  • unpretentious care. Here it is worth noting the good drought resistance of the variety;
  • taste of fruits;
  • high yield with low fruit weight.

Advantages of the variety Izuminka

The Iziuminka variety has only one significant disadvantage - poor cold resistance, but this problem is solvable if the seedlings are planted in a greenhouse, greenhouse, or at least under a temporary shelter after recurrent frosts.
