Tomato appearance

Tomatoes are extremely popular crops. This is due to the positive properties of the plant's fruits, their excellent taste, and versatility of use. One of the conditions for a good harvest is feeding tomatoes during flowering and ovary.

Features of culture

Tomatoes belong to the Solanaceae family. South America is considered the birthplace of this culture. Today, wild plant species can still be found in this region. Tomatoes were brought to our country by Portuguese seafarers at the end of the 18th century.

The fruits contain:

  • vitamins,
  • carbohydrates,
  • fiber,
  • organic acids.

The leaves of the plant contain the alkaloid tomalin, which is involved in the generation of testosterone.

The composition of tomato fruits determines their medicinal properties. For example, the presence of lycopene in berries helps prevent the development of malignant tumors of the prostate and cervix, and reduces the likelihood of problems with the cardiovascular system.

On a note! Doctors recommend using tomatoes as diuretics, to improve the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system.

Masks prepared on the basis of tomato juice or pulp help get rid of wrinkles on the face, improve skin tone, make it firm and youthful.

How to feed tomatoes during flowering

Phosphate fertilizer

A profusely flowering tomato bush is the key to a good harvest. For this, the plant needs components such as nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. With their lack, the appearance of the bush changes:

  • yellowing of the leaves from the root to the top of the bush is observed with an insufficient amount of nitrogen;
  • leaves turn purple if there is not enough phosphorus;
  • with insufficient potassium, the leaves gradually discolor.

When tomatoes are blooming, you cannot do without high-quality and timely feeding. Otherwise, the berries will grow sour, and their flesh will acquire a greenish tint.

Fertilizing plants is especially important when tomatoes begin to bloom, as well as during budding.

Important! Excess fertilization can also negatively affect the flowering of the plant and the formation of the ovary.

When choosing how to feed tomatoes during flowering, you need to decide on the method of feeding:

  • foliar;
  • root.

Top dressing of tomatoes during the flowering period by foliar method (spraying) contributes to the rapid absorption of fertilizer. The spread of the drug goes from its root system throughout the plant. As soon as the substance hits the surface of the plant, it instantly begins to act.

Plants can be sprayed with a solution of mineral fertilizers. Among the most common are the following:

  • superphosphate;
  • potassium salt;
  • sodium chloride and sulfate.

It is also recommended to use phosphate-potassium fertilizers such as potassium monophosphate. 15 grams of crystals of the product is diluted in 10 liters of water. This volume is enough to process 1 m2 of garden area.

Important! With too much nitrogen in the soil at a time when tomatoes are blooming, the green mass of the bush grows and gains volume too actively. This does not contribute to a good harvest, therefore experienced gardeners recommend resorting to the removal of lateral stepsons on seedlings.

If the soil lacks nitrogen, it is recommended to use complex fertilizers. Their advantage lies in the fact that the amount of mineral and organic fertilizers in them is balanced. In this case, you can use the following fertilizers:

  • Kemira;
  • Station wagon;
  • Signor tomato;
  • Solution;
  • Effekton.

It is necessary to observe the correct ratio of fertilizers: there are more potash than mineral fertilizers. The selected fertilizers should contain such components as boron, sulfur, calcium, magnesium, iron. The composition should not contain chlorine and its components.

Mineral dressings should be alternated with organic ones, they can be purchased ready-made, or they can be prepared according to proven folk recipes.

  • Yeast. Processing them will help increase the amount of green mass of the plant, which will not harm the acceleration of flowering of tomatoes. You need to mix 100 gr. fresh yeast and 1 liter of water. After a stable foam forms on the surface of the liquid in the container, the solution can be considered ready for use. Fertilizing with yeast must be combined with the introduction of wood ash.
  • Ash. When the tomatoes have bloomed and the question arises, how to feed them. It is recommended to use ash made from peat or straw. It is in them that the maximum amount of components such as magnesium, calcium and phosphorus is found. A plant that is about to bloom or is entering the fruit-setting phase cannot do without them.
    It is recommended to add 1-10 tbsp. l. ash under the bush. This top dressing can be used every 7 days. Another option is to water the bushes with a solution that consists of 10 grams. ash and 10 liters of water. Approximately 2 liters of solution is applied under each bush.
  • Iodine. The use of this product helps to increase the number of ovaries on each plant. In addition, the berries begin to ripen several times faster. Dissolve 1 liter of nitrophosphate in 10 liters of water. For watering each plant, approximately 1.5 liters of solution is used.

Of great importance during the flowering of tomatoes and the formation of their ovary is not only feeding the plants, but also watering them. With a lack or excess of moisture at this time, the possibility of the formation of barren flowers is not excluded.

Important! In this situation, tomato bushes will constantly drop the ovary.

Tomato bushes that enter the period of flowering or the formation of an ovary receive a rather large load. If you do not provide them with proper care, it is possible that the flowers will begin to fall off. To avoid such a situation, it is necessary to spray the plants with a solution prepared from boric acid and water every 10 days. You can also increase the amount of ovary by spraying the bushes with superphosphate. Hot water is used for its preparation. Cool the solution before spraying. The proportions are indicated on the package and depend on the form of release.

Good results can also be achieved by using a superphosphate solution, it is also prepared with hot water. The solution should be infused throughout the day. Each tomato bush must be sprayed with this solution.

Important! In no case should you spray them with urea at the time when the tomatoes are blooming.

Excellent results can also be obtained by using a calcium nitrate spray solution. This drug is as effective as urea, but it is not as aggressive.

Foliar and sub-root feeding of tomato bushes during their flowering period or the formation of an ovary not only helps to increase the number of flowers and ovaries on plants, but also improves the taste of berries.

Important! Do not forget that the water used to prepare the solution used for root dressing must be warm. If the water is cold, it will be almost impossible to achieve a positive result.

Knowing how to speed up the flowering of tomatoes in the greenhouse with the help of fertilizers and how to feed the tomatoes that have bloomed, you can achieve an excellent tomato harvest.
