The short summer season near Moscow rarely gives you the opportunity to enjoy sweet berries from a garden bush. Local gardeners (Moscow region) have long learned to overcome this drawback by extending the season by growing so-called "remontant" raspberries on their plots. In this case, in the summer season, each raspberry bush manages to bear fruit several times (2-3 times).

The right choice of the best varieties of raspberries for the Moscow Region allows every gardener to collect a good supply of very useful berries. Most of these varieties are described below.

Definition and benefits

It is customary to refer to remontant varieties as a special class of plants of the first year of conception, on the shoots of which the berry ripens more than once a season.

Useful information. Young shoots of common varietal raspberries, as a rule, do not bear fruit at all.

Raspberry remontant

So when considering the question of which type of raspberry is best to plant in the Moscow region, you cannot go wrong if you immediately choose a remontant variety.

Raspberries remontantnaya the best varieties for the Moscow region, with the arrival of spring, drives out all the new shoots formed from the part of the bush hidden in the ground. From them, additional branches grow, on which a new crop ripens in due time.

With the onset of cold weather, the top of these shoots partially dries out, and the rest of the year begins to bear fruit again. As a result, on the raspberry bush, the fruits can ripen twice a year; biennial shoots are usually the first to bear fruit, and after a while - and annuals.

Interesting! The variety we are considering (a special raspberry for the Moscow region) has one important advantage, which is its ability to produce a good berry harvest on annual shoots. Moreover, it is fully manifested only in those cases when the fruitful ability of the bush is based on the capabilities of young branches.

That is, if you cut the bush at the root every year with the arrival of winter, then it will certainly begin to work for a new generation of berries that ripen from annual shoots with the arrival of the next season.

Early varieties

Kalashnik

This early variety of raspberries can be recognized by not very large oval-shaped fruits, quite simply removed from the fruit bed. They are distinguished by their dark red color, with a pronounced glossy sheen. The sweet berries of the variety, which have a subtle aroma and juicy ripe pulp, do not contain many seeds. But at the same time, their yield is very decent (provided that competent care is provided, it reaches 2-3 kg from one bush).

Additional remark! In fairly favorable conditions, as well as in a particularly warm harvest season, it is possible to collect twice as many berries.

The time when this variety begins to ripen begins in the month of August, and from the second part of September (after about 5 berry picks), their fruiting ends.

The resilient, strong one-year-old shoots on the branches are distinguished by a characteristic waxy bloom, and thorns are placed at equal distances along their entire length.

Unattainable

A raspberry variety called "Inaccessible" begins to ripen even before the arrival of early frosts, which occur in the region in question somewhere in mid-September. The relatively large and dark red berries of this species have a blunt-conical appearance and weigh on average about 6 grams.Individual slices of berries - with small bone nuclei, firmly adhere to each other, forming a fruit of medium density.

This variety is distinguished by a high yield, which corresponds to an average collection of about 5 kg of berries from each bush. The first ripe raspberries "Inaccessible" can be harvested already in the first ten days of August, and somewhere in the middle of September, fivefold fruiting ends completely.

Penguin

The Penguin species has one undoubted advantage over other varieties - it has the earliest and rather fleeting period of summer fruiting. Its complete exhaustion should be expected with the arrival of September (usually at the beginning).

In this variety, the berries are similar to the Kalashnik variety and reach approximately the same weight (4 grams). They can survive on the bush without loss of quality for about 5 days after the final ripening. The annual harvest of the Penguin tomato can reach 1.5-2 kg per bush.

The so-called "standard" type of plant of this variety resembles a small tree, about 1.3 meters high. This plant is practically insensitive to all known diseases and pests. However, its resistance to frost is insufficient, which forces it to be carefully covered for the winter.

High-yielding varieties

Of significant interest to most gardeners is the yield of the crop, or, in other words, the amount of fruit that can be obtained from a bush per year. Based on the research of well-known breeders, new varieties of this crop were created, which are distinguished by such an indicator as large-fruited.

Atlant

The conditional rating of this group of plants is headed by the variety with the symbolic name "Atlant". The bushes of this high-yielding raspberry crop sometimes grow up to 1.6 meters, and its fruits can occupy most of the emerging replacement shoots. The seasonal yield of this type of raspberry sometimes reaches 3 kg per bush. Its very large fruits (their weight is about 5.5 grams) have a characteristic dessert taste; however, they are suitable for home salting and other processing.

Indian Summer-2

This high-yielding raspberry variety is distinguished by not too large (somewhere up to 3.5 grams), but rather pleasant to the taste fruits of a blunt oval configuration. At the same time they have a dark ruby color (almost black in evening light); while the pulp of such a fruit is very tender.

Fact! The yield of this species per bush in annual terms reaches 1.8-2.3 kg.

Firebird

If you want to get a wonderful variety of raspberries, we recommend choosing a sample called "Firebird". The shoots of this type of raspberry bush are distinguished by an extended fruiting area, which occupies a little more than half of the stem. The fruits are pointed berries, distinguished by a bright color shade (their weight is approximately 4.5-6 grams).

Raspberry variety Firebird

This species is distinguished from many other similar crops by its extremely sweet taste, since the sugar content of the fruit exceeds 5.5%.

Shugana

This relatively new variety immediately gained popularity among amateur gardeners. The dense and rather large fruits of this plant have a bright red color and have a unique dessert taste, which is rarely found in other samples. Fruiting all autumn (from August to mid-October), and in July next year, the berry ripens on last year's shoots. For a calendar year, up to 9 kg of berries are harvested from one bush.

Additional Information! The same category should include a raspberry variety called the Yellow Giant.

In conclusion, we note that almost all the varieties of large-fruited raspberries we have considered for the Moscow region, which experts recommend planting, are characterized by high resistance and good quality berries. They are able to bear fruit more than once a year and ensure a good harvest.
