Many amateur gardeners are happy to grow such a famous berry as strawberry, especially since the choice of its varieties is quite large. This variety guarantees the selection of the right variety and type for almost everyone who wants to breed it on their plots. At the same time, any novice gardener would like to have a culture that is not too dependent on local conditions and is resistant to various diseases.

For these purposes, a hybrid variety called the Lord strawberry, which is adapted for growing in a wide variety of climatic regions, is optimal. In addition, this plant attracts berry lovers with its incomparable taste and unpretentious care.

Lord strawberry

It is not possible to find verified and reliable information about where the Lord's strawberry hybrid was brought to us, but some of the sources consider it to be the result of research by British breeders. In Russia, the first data on this berry appeared at the end of the last century, after which it immediately gained popularity and began to be grown first in Ukraine, and then in central Russia (Moscow region, the Urals and Siberia).

Note! According to experts, this variety has a high fruiting potential and, under certain conditions, can be used commercially.

Characteristics of the variety

This type of fruit plant is characterized by an unusually large berry size and resistance to strong temperature changes. Its bushes are well adapted to autumn and spring frosts, and are also characterized by increased immunity to most garden diseases. Other features that characterize the strawberry variety Lord can be represented by the following properties:

  • The plant is undemanding to care when growing, it does not have to spend a lot of energy on it.
  • When all the requirements of agricultural technology are fulfilled, giant berries grow on its bushes, weighing up to 100 grams.
  • Their shape is rather conical than oval, and the color is bright red.
  • They have a very pleasant sweet and sour taste and a pronounced aroma.
  • The Lord's strawberry bushes, the description of which can be found in this section, are rather large and erect (their height can reach 50 cm).
  • Peduncles in this type of plant are quite strong, but during the growing season they require a garter.

Additional Information. Due to the huge size of the berries, the stems usually spread along the ground. In order to avoid heavy contamination and damage by earth parasites, it is recommended to tie each of them to a separate support.

In the process of growth, tendrils appear on the main (mother) bush with new seedlings forming on them. Since this process develops independently in strawberry Lord, there is usually no need for special preparation of seedlings. After each outlet is separated from the mother part, it will be possible to place the seedling for a while in a dark and cool place, where it must wait for the time of its planting.

Strawberry bush Lord

In the case of competent care of the plant under the affectionate name "strawberry", the fruiting of its bushes can be extended up to 10 years (for about 4-5 years, the yield will remain very high). This indicator can be considered quite acceptable, since other varieties of strawberry plants, as a rule, are updated every 4 years.

Important! Every five years in the area where strawberries are grown, it will be necessary to replace the soil. Otherwise, the yield of the bushes drops significantly.

The ripening and fruiting period of a plant lasts long enough, so that the first fruits are harvested at the very beginning of June. At this time, it is possible to remove approximately 5-6 large berries of the same size from each outlet. By mid-July, fruiting begins to decline, and then stops altogether.

Agrotechnics

Site preparation

Strawberries or garden strawberries called Lord prefer sunny and dry places; otherwise, its large, in normal situations, the berry can be very chopped. The soil on the site, selected taking into account these conditions, needs thorough preparation for the upcoming landing, namely:

  • First of all, on the eve of planting, the land is thoroughly cleared of weeds;
  • After that, it is treated with a pre-prepared ammonia solution, which guarantees the protection of young shoots from garden pests;
  • Before planting seedlings, you should pause for a while, until the soil "moves away" a little and dries up.

Note! Since the fruits of the Lord strawberry are very large, it is recommended to plant seedlings in a checkerboard pattern, in which there is enough free space in the garden. In addition, the often planted shoots make it much more difficult to loosen the soil and limit the flow of sunlight during flowering.

Planting seedlings

Planting strawberries

Many gardeners prefer to plant Lord strawberry seedlings under a protective film, which greatly facilitates their regular care. For this, a piece of polyethylene cut to the size of the bed is used, in which holes are made with a step corresponding to the frequency of planting.

After spreading it in the ground, holes are made in the places of holes in which future bushes are planted. They are buried in such a way that the upper part is located just above the surface of the film. The proposed planting method also greatly simplifies the procedure for picking berries.

Important! Planting this variety of strawberries is allowed either in early spring or in autumn, before frost has yet come. In the latter case, the seedlings need time to take root in the new conditions (otherwise they may die with the arrival of frost).

During its development (up to maturation), the soil under the bushes needs regular watering and loosening. After the first berries ripen, the number of waterings is reduced.

Top dressing

For feeding strawberry bushes, Lord is recommended to use classic organic matter from a mixture of humus, peat and manure, which well stimulate the growth and fruiting of this culture. Their frequency and volumes are selected taking into account the fertility of the soil in a given region and the characteristics of the strawberry variety itself.

Mulching strawberries with sawdust

Periodic mulching of the soil will significantly facilitate the care of it, after which the growth of weeds is sharply reduced, and moisture is better retained in the ground. Simultaneously with weeding the beds, the tendrils growing on it should be cut off from the strawberries, which take energy from the plant.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantage of the Lord strawberry is its longevity. Other advantages of this garden culture include:

  • Quite pleasant taste with sweet and sour aftertaste.
  • A scent like nothing else.
  • Unprecedentedly large fruit size.

There are practically no disadvantages of this variety, with the exception of the high demands on the quality of the soil at the place of planting.

In the final part of the review, we note that the Lord's strawberry belongs to the samples of garden berries, the cultivation of which does not require either skill or special labor costs. It is ideal for novice amateur gardeners and guarantees a rich harvest of juicy and tasty berries.
