Strawberries and Victoria are species belonging to the same genus of strawberries, which include garden and forest herbaceous plants with berries and trifoliate leaves. Strawberries, as the wild-growing green strawberries are called because of the dense berries - glomeruli, are common in open areas. It began to be cultivated centuries ago in the gardens of Russia and Europe. With the development of selection, a hybrid was developed from the species of Chilean and Virginian strawberries, which the authors named Victoria in honor of the Queen of Great Britain. This plant quickly spread throughout all countries. Now it is a kind of garden pineapple strawberry with many varieties with large and sweet berries. The original cultivar, as a variety, is not registered in Russia.

How to determine

Difference between field strawberries and victoria

These plants are completely different species, they can be easily distinguished by their structure and habitat. Signs of how strawberries differ from strawberries and victoria:

  1. Strawberries grow naturally, while Victoria is bred varieties of garden strawberries.
  2. There are many wild strawberry species. Its bushes are smaller than strawberry bushes.
  3. One of the most striking differences: strawberry is a dioecious plant. To get a harvest, a quarter of the plot is given under bushes with male, pollinating flowers, on which the berries do not ripen.
  4. Wild strawberries and garden, or Victoria is a monoecious crop: fruits ripen on all bushes.
  5. Among the characteristic differences is the height of the peduncles. In strawberries, they rise above the bush, flowers and Victoria fruits bend down.
  6. The main significant factor in what distinguishes strawberries from Victoria varieties is low yield, berries are small, 2-5 g, although fragrant. Fruits are colored unevenly: red from the sun, pink or green-white on the back.
  7. Most of the Victoria varieties have large fruits, the smallest - from 10 g, a uniform bright red hue and with high yields.

The difference between strawberries and victoria is quite dramatic. Only thanks to tradition and folk memory, varieties of garden pineapple strawberries in Russia are called strawberries. Someone likes a different, less common name, then strawberries are called Victoria because of the first variety with large berries that came to Russia.

Additional Information. Nowadays, on the basis of garden and nutmeg strawberries, a new plant has been created - the earthworm. A feature of the varieties of this culture is tall flower stalks that rise above the bushes, withstand the weight of ripe large berries

Top dressing for Victoria

The yield of strawberry garden bushes depends on their planting in a sunny area where water does not accumulate, timely fertilizing and watering. Organic fertilizers applied to the planting holes will ensure a good collection of Victoria, because the strawberry seedlings receive support for growth.

Fertilizers in spring and during flowering

Plentiful watering is carried out before feeding. In spring, plants are fertilized:

  • urea, covering under bushes 5 g.granules per 1 sq. m;
  • wood ash, insisting a 1 liter product in a bucket of water throughout the day and then spending a liter per 1 sq. m;
  • ammonia, dissolving 40-50 ml of the drug in 10 liters of water and using a watering can to spill the bushes.

All these funds should not be mixed with any others. They are used before strawberry budding.

Feeding with urea

A good result is obtained by spraying strawberries with boric acid during flowering, which:

  • saturates the leaves with chlorophyll;
  • increases the number of ovaries and growth points;
  • promotes the accumulation of sugar in berries.

For foliar feeding, first dissolve 1-2 g of the drug in a liter of heated water. Then the infusion is diluted with 9 liters of water, 1 g of potassium permanganate is added. This amount is spent on 30 bushes.

Fertilizing Victoria with yeast during flowering is becoming popular, which stimulates the activity of soil bacteria that process organic matter into substances easily assimilated by plants. 100 g of yeast and 50 g of sugar are dissolved in warm water, then the mixture is diluted with 10 liters of water to water the soil under the bushes. Fertilize with a product in warm weather on warm ground.

Fertilizers during fruiting

Fertilizing for Victoria is important during fruiting. During this period, potassium-phosphorus fertilizers are used:

  • repeated applications of wood ash;
  • special mineral complex fertilizers for berry crops;
  • potassium nitrate, dissolving 5 g of granules in a bucket of water for 10 square meters. m.

Victoria's watering during fruiting is abundant. If there is no precipitation, water it daily or every other day so that the soil is moistened to 12 cm, to the full depth of the roots. Moisture facilitates easy access of fertilizers to the plant.

The last feeding with superphosphate is applied during the autumn digging of the site.

Note! Using top dressing makes the soil acidic. In the fall, the site is alkalized by digging with lime or dolomite flour.
