Summer and early autumn are rich in fruits, vegetables and berries. But you can get them in sufficient quantities even in cold weather, if you plant a Stroevskoe apple tree in your garden. Thanks to this unusual winter variety, fresh liquid apples will be on the table on New Year's or Christmas Eve.

Variety history

Breeding a new variety usually takes a lot of time and takes several years. Breeding is usually done by a whole group of scientists. So the Stroyevskoe apple tree is the result of the work of a research team from the All-Russian Research Institute of Breeding of Fruit Crops: V.V. Zhdanov, Z.M. Serova, E.N. Sedov, E.A. Dolmatov.

Thanks to their hard work, in 1981 they managed to get seeds, from which a new variety was bred a year later. But this is only the beginning of work, the first crop was harvested only after almost 10 years - in 1991. And in 1995, the Stroyevskoe apple tree was recognized as an elite variety, which means that its fruits are of very high quality.

Fruit varieties

In 1999, VDNKh hosted an agricultural exhibition "Revival of the Russian Village", then a new variety of apple trees was highly appreciated and awarded the Gold Medal and the Exhibition Diploma. In 2001 it was included in the State Register.

Description of the apple tree Stroyevskoe

Despite the fact that the variety was discovered only a few decades ago and is considered quite young, the new breeding culture differs noticeably and favorably from its other brethren:

  • trees are distinguished by an average height (maximum 3 m);
  • leaves are large in size, light (green with a yellow tinge), oblong in shape, wavy at the edges;
  • the flowers look like white buds with a pinkish tinge and a pleasant aroma, in each inflorescence there are from 4 to 6 flowers with rounded petals;
  • the bark of the tree is gray, has a smooth surface;
  • crown is not very dense, pyramidal in shape.

The fruit that this winter variety will bear is usually medium-sized, sometimes quite large. An apple, as a rule, weighs 110-120 grams, you can also find large specimens, the weight of which reaches 170-180 grams. The shape of the fruit is round, characteristic of similar, but slightly sloping, with barely noticeable ribbing. The apple peel is distinguished by a glossy sheen, smoothness and the absence of wax bloom.

Harvesting usually begins in the second half of September, when the apples are still greenish with a slightly visible yellow color.

Note! Immediately after the branches are harvested, it is too early to eat them. You can taste the fruits of the Stroyevskoe apple tree in about a month, not earlier. It is then that they reach their ripeness, the apple turns golden and shimmers with a raspberry blush.

The fruit tastes juicy, sweet and sour, but the sweetness is still felt to a greater extent. You can distinguish ripe ones from those that still need to hang by the pulp - ripe ones have white color, while immature ones have a greenish tint.

On a note!Fruits contain a lot of pectin - polysaccharides that cleanse the body and normalize the intestines.

The shelf life of apples is long. Even if you do not follow special conditions, you can delight yourself and your family with bulk apples until the end of February. That is why this variety is considered winter.

Main characteristics

The first fruits of the Stroyevskoe apple tree will delight gardeners in about 8-11 years. However, there were cases when after planting until the first harvest took place only 5 years. But one shouldn't really hope for this, apples will be able to taste no earlier than in 7 years.

The characteristic according to various criteria of the Stroyevskoe apple tree favorably distinguishes this variety from the rest:

  • high yield (one adult tree gives up to 60 kg of apples);
  • frost resistance (easily tolerates up to -40 ᵒС);
  • resistance to diseases and pests, scab is not terrible;
  • long shelf life (until the end of February);
  • high quality of fruits (juicy, sweet and sour, tasty);
  • apples tolerate transportation well.

At the same time, there is one obvious disadvantage of this variety - to get the first harvest and taste the fruits of the Stroyevskoe apple tree, you will have to wait at least 7 years. The variety is not fast-growing, for those who are not used to or have no time to wait, it is better to pay attention to other early-ripening varieties, for example, the Arkad apple tree, Moscow Grushovka, Zolotaya early Kitayka, etc.

Planting and leaving

Planting of this variety of apple trees should be carried out on fertile soils. Black soil is best suited. In no case should you plant the Stroevskoe apple tree in soils in which there is a large amount of alkali or acidic. The place should be sunny, if the tree is planted in the shade, it will not grow well, the yield will decrease.

Lack of sunlight affects fruits

The land in which the gardener plans to plant the apple tree must be fertilized very well with nutrients about a week before planting. In order not to harm the tree, fresh manure must be excluded.

Despite the fact that in the first years of life, a young tree grows rapidly, it needs care.

  • a year later (in March) water the seedling with liquid manure;
  • in May, make a second top dressing, this time it is better to use humus;
  • during the flowering of the tree to enhance the growing processes, fertilize the land around the apple tree with liquid manure;
  • closer to winter, it is necessary to "feed" again, so that it would be easier for the apple tree to endure frosts.

Young apple seedlings of this variety should be watered abundantly. One tree requires at least 20 liters of water. The crown must be renewed twice a year - in spring and autumn. It is also worth cutting off the broken branches. If you save the tree from unnecessary branches and shorten the shoots, it will give a rich harvest in gratitude.

Although the Stroyevskoe apple tree is highly resistant to diseases and pests, it is still not recommended to refuse preventive treatments.

Note! The tree does not need to be protected from scab, this variety has immunity to it.

Treatment from harmful insects is also not needed. This means that it is quite possible to grow apples of this variety without chemicals and ultimately get a useful, environmentally friendly product.

Indeed, it will take a long time to wait for the first harvest from the Stroevskoe apple tree, but the wait is worth it, because you can get not only a tasty product, but also a very useful one. Usually fruits of this winter variety are eaten fresh, but you can also make jam or homemade juice. If you just imagine that on New Year's Eve the main decoration of the festive table will be fresh fragrant apples grown with your own hands, then can there be a greater miracle on New Year's Eve?
