With the onset of warm spring days, amateur gardeners and summer residents begin a time of troubles and worries. The main task is to grow healthy strong seedlings of various crops in order to plant young plants in a greenhouse or soil in early June. Possessing good skills and ingenuity, self-taught agricultural technicians have invented several methods of growing seedlings of cultivated plants in improvised containers and in unusual substrates. Recently, the cultivation of seedlings of cucumbers in rolls without soil has become widespread (seedlings in Moscow).

Technology for growing cucumbers without land

Everything ingenious is simple. Any schoolchild knows that in the seeds of plants nature has a supply of nutrients that are consumed by the embryos during germination. A kind of mini "pantry of the sun" in action. Using the hand-rolled method, they grow:

  • tomatoes;
  • peppers;
  • eggplant;
  • cucumbers;
  • pumpkin;
  • squash;
  • zucchini;
  • cabbage;
  • seedlings of flowers.

Cold-resistant spring onions, leeks, black onions are planted in a permanent place of growth directly from the roll, when their roots grow well. Convenient and fast.

Planting cucumbers without land has undeniable advantages:

  • the seedlings are not damaged by the black leg, because the seedlings do not come into contact with the ground;
  • saving space on the windowsills of city apartments (at the initial stage of plant development);
  • no costs for the purchase of soil;
  • the method guarantees 100% germination;
  • seedlings are strong and healthy;
  • convenience of diving of grown seedlings into a garden bed or containers;
  • variety of technologies based on the roll-up method;
  • a minimum of consumables for the manufacture of rolls.

How to grow cucumber seedlings without land using the "hand-rolled" method

Sowing seeds for seedlings of cucumbers in paper rolls using the hand-rolled method is as follows:

  1. Take a transparent plastic bag or isolon, white toilet paper, glasses.
  2. Cut all material into even strips. Length, width do not matter, the main thing is that it is convenient to work with blanks. You can focus on the size of a roll of toilet paper (strips longer than 40 cm are not very convenient to roll into a roll). The number of blanks - according to the available varieties of cucumbers, which are planned to be grown in the personal plot.
  3. Roll up paper in 2-3 layers.
  4. Place it on plastic tape.
  5. Moisten the workpiece with settled water from a sprayer (with the addition of an Epin-type biostimulator, chlorella suspension or other analogue).
  6. Depart from the top edge at least 1.5 cm, from the bottom - at least 1 cm.
  7. Gently (with tweezers or hands) spread the seeds with an interval of 5-6 cm between them.
  8. Cover the cucumber seeds again with 1 layer of toilet paper, sprinkle with water. The paper should be damp, but not wet.
  9. Close the puff cucumbers with a plastic strip. Check the sequence of the layers. It should be like this: polyethylene, paper, seeds, paper, polyethylene.
  10. Carefully, so that no seeds fall out, roll the strips into a roll.
  11. Write the name of the variety on the label, attach to the roll, secure with an elastic band.
  12. Put the rolled cucumbers in any suitable container (in glasses made from plastic bottles) with a little water (up to 3-4 cm).
  13. Cover with a plastic bag (cling film), make several ventilation holes in it.
  14. It is imperative to put the cigarette roll in the warmest place in the apartment. Low temperatures have a detrimental effect on the future seedlings of rolled cucumbers.

Seedlings of rolled cucumbers are covered with a plastic bag.

As soon as the cucumber shoots hatch, you need to immediately transfer the snail rolls to the sunny windowsill, under the lamps and feed them with mineral fertilizers, reducing the concentration of the nutrient solution by 2 times. The owners of future seedlings should always monitor the water level in the glass. The roll should not dry out. When the first leaf appears, carry out a second feeding (for example, with humin).

After the formation of developed roots and true leaves on the seedlings, they dive:

  1. first, the top layer of polyethylene is removed;
  2. then the seedlings, carefully so as not to damage the root system, are cut off along with toilet paper and planted in pre-prepared pots;
  3. plants are buried in the soil almost to the very cotyledonous leaves;
  4. poured abundantly with water.

In order to get a productive vegetable garden, cucumbers without land can be planted of any varieties, but experts recommend purchasing zoned ones, since they are easily acclimatized to any weather conditions.

Important! Many gardeners note that the following varieties are best suited for planting cucumbers in hand-rolled cucumbers: Tatyana, Sapsho, Borisych, Ararat.

Seedlings of cucumbers on tea bags

The imagination of domestic gardeners knows no boundaries when it comes time to worry about the next harvest. They came up with the cultivation of seedlings of cucumbers in rolls without soil in an original way - in tea bags for one-time brewing. The preparation of this "container" begins in winter, at hours free from household chores.

Cucumbers in tea bags.

Planting cucumbers in tea bags is fun, easy and quick:

  1. Prepare the required number of disposable tea bags.
  2. Cut off the top of the bag with scissors, add earth to the remaining tea leaves and place the bags upright in the garden container.
  3. The space between the "bags of earth" should be filled with newspapers (as an option, cotton pads, used cigarette filters) for the stability of the structure and protection from rapid evaporation of moisture.
  4. Sow 1-2 cucumber seeds in each bag.
  5. Pour well with warm water and remove the container to a place illuminated and warmed up by the sun. To accelerate germination, you can cover the dishes with foil for 2-3 days.
  6. After the sprouts appear, the cucumber seedlings are thinned out in the roll. A weak specimen is carefully pinched.

Note! Instead of draining newspaper sheets, tea bags can be sprinkled with sand. For the winter they are taken to the utility room, and in the spring they are placed on the windowsill and spilled with water.

Planting cucumbers in bags takes place without a hitch, since the root system grows in a confined space, so it will never suffer during transplantation. The yield of cucumbers with this method of planting will be much higher, since in the process of growth the tea bags will burst, and the roots of this tropical vine will begin to grow rapidly.

Growing cucumber seedlings in a plastic bottle way"Hand-rolled"

The grown seedlings can even be planted in plastic bottles, but for this they need to be specially prepared.

Note! In plastic containers, including bottles, the soil warms up much better than in the open field in traditional beds.

Sowing sequence:

  1. Wash bottle clean.
  2. Carefully cut off the bottom, the upper conical part (along the shoulders) with a sharp knife.
  3. Bury the resulting cylinder in warm soil to a depth of 5 cm.
  4. Pour the prepared fertile substance (a mixture of humus, ash and sod land) into it by ¾ volume.
  5. Plant curled cucumbers when the seedlings need to be dived. Planting rate is 2 cucumbers per bottle.
  6. Good to spill.

In the future, it is necessary to water in the evenings with water heated in the sun at the rate of 0.7 liters per 1 bottle-place. Favorably on the growth of plants will be influenced by their shelter from night changes in temperature, precipitation and wind with a mini-greenhouse made from the upper cone of the bottle. After half a month, you can either dispose of it or save it until next year.

Compared to traditional methods, planting cucumbers without land eliminates the most traumatic period in the development of plants - transplanting into pots and glasses, when the seedlings are sick and slow down their growth. Craftsmen gave the Russians a progressive method of self-rolling agricultural technology, thanks to which the harvest in the beds became not only predictable, but also 100% guaranteed.
