Cucumber Gunnar F1 gives stable yields, the greens are tasty and juicy. The variety was bred by breeders living in Enkhuizen (Holland). The seeds are sold by the Dutch producer Enza Zaden. The State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia says that the variety can be planted in greenhouses in the Central and Central Black Earth regions.

Characteristics and features of the variety

Gunnar F1 belongs to the early varieties. That is, vegetables can be removed 1-1.6 months after the first sprouts. Zelentsy is required to be collected every 2-3 days, and if there are many of them, then every day.
Description of the bush: it is compact, although tall. The bush is indeterminate type, it does not stop growing even after the appearance of flower clusters.

Important! This is a parthenocarpic variety, that is, the plant is self-fertile, ovaries appear without pollination at all.
The rhizome is strong. The lateral branches are short. A node can grow 2-4 vegetables. Zelentsy have a dark green hue, they are of the same color. The length of the cucumber is 12-14 cm, it is cylindrical. Fruit weight 90-100 g. The surface of the fruit has tubercles, thorns are light green. There is never bitterness in Zelentsi.

Advantages

Cucumbers have many benefits:

  • If you plant the bushes in spring, you can collect 18-22 kg of fruit from 1 m². If in summer, then - 9-12 kg from 1 m².
  • When the vegetables ripen, they remain the same cylindrical, they do not become large and thick, they taste the same tender and juicy, they can hang on the vine for several days.
  • Since the culture is tall but compact, it is easy to care for.
  • Cucumbers can be stored for up to 2 weeks.
  • They are well transported as their skin is quite dense.
  • The variety is immune to brown spot.
  • Has medium resistance to cucumber mosaic virus, powdery mildew, cucumber vein yellowing virus.

disadvantages

There are not many disadvantages:

  • Shrubs often suffer from downy mildew.
  • If the soil is salty, the vegetables do not have a bright color.
  • With a lack of moisture in the fruit, voids may form.
  • Since this is a hybrid, you cannot collect and plant seeds, you need to buy them.

Landing

The Gunnar F1 variety is advised to grow in greenhouses or hotbeds, only then can a high yield be collected. Planting in open ground is done only in the south, but the yield will decrease, it will be 1.5 times less than in a greenhouse.
For planting in a greenhouse in spring, you first need to grow seedlings, and in summer you can simply sow seeds in a greenhouse.

Note! Purchased seeds can not be disinfected in a solution of potassium permanganate, as this has already been done. You need to soak the seeds for 3 hours in a solution of 1.5 ml Kendal and 1 liter of clean water.

Next, put a moistened napkin on a saucer and sprinkle seeds on it. The napkin needs to be moistened from a spray bottle. The seeds should be moist on all sides. A saucer with a napkin and seeds must be placed in a warm place, a heating battery will work well. Then in 1-2 days the seeds will hatch.
It is best to plant seeds in peat pots, then the roots will not be damaged when transplanted into the ground, since peat pots can be placed in the soil immediately.
A mixture of equal shares of peat, turf, humus, sawdust is poured into the pots.
Next, sprinkle the seeds on the soil, sprinkle with soil 1.5 cm, moisten well from a spray bottle, cover with foil and place in heat (+ 26-28 ° C). It is required to raise the film daily to air the plantings and watch the soil moisture.
You should place 2-3 seeds in each pot, if they all germinate, you need to choose the most powerful plant, and carefully cut the rest with scissors, then the roots of the strongest seedling will not be damaged.

When shoots appear, the film must be removed, and the seedlings must be placed in a room with a temperature of + 20 ° C. If, nevertheless, the seeds were sown in one box, when the seedlings grow 2-4 true leaves, they need to be dived into separate containers. But it is still better to sow immediately in separate containers, since cucumbers have very delicate roots.
It is also good to sow seeds in peat tablets. To do this, put them in a plastic container, pour water. After the peat tablets swell and stop absorbing moisture, you need to drain the excess water from the container. There is a hole in the upper part of the tablets, it must be deepened and sown by 2 seeds. If 2 sprouts grow, then 1 sprout is cut with scissors. The container also needs to be covered with foil and placed in heat.
Grown seedlings with 3-4 true leaves should be fertilized with a solution of urea, pouring 1 teaspoon into 3 liters of water. Pour 200 ml of solution under the seedling.
Then you need to feed them after 7 days, making a solution of 1 teaspoon of nitroammofoska, 1 tbsp. tablespoons of ash and 3 liters of water. For each seedling, add 200 ml.

Seedlings must be hardened 7 days before transplanting into the greenhouse, and for this, the temperature should be lowered to + 18-20 ° C.

You can plant seedlings in the ground in a greenhouse when the ground warms up to + 20 ° C, and the seedlings grow 4-5 true leaves.
The greenhouse should have fertile soil with neutral characteristics. The optimal composition of the soil is equal proportions of humus and sod land, a few needles of needles and peat. If the soil is still acidic, in the fall it is necessary to add dolomite flour or lime, fluff, ash, and then dig it to the depth of a shovel. Also in the fall, 50 g of nitrophosphate is scattered on 1 m².
And so that the culture is not affected by parasites - nematodes and wireworms - in the spring dry preparation "Aktofit" is scattered on the ground at 50 g per 1 m², then it is required to re-dig the soil.

Attention! It is advised to make beds in the greenhouse from north to south.

If the greenhouse is unheated, seedlings should be planted from May 15th. To plant seedlings, you need to dig holes at a distance of 40-50 cm from one another.
Also at this time, you can sow seeds directly into the greenhouse, as the soil warms up to + 16 ° C.

Growing

Variety care includes watering, mulching, feeding, pulling out weeds.
After transplanting, the seedlings cannot be fertilized, otherwise the roots will not be able to withstand the load. Top dressing is done somewhere in 2 weeks, if each seedling has 5 leaves. Top dressing must be combined with watering.
When the vine grows, a garter should be made to the trellis, since the cucumber bushes are tall, and they must be formed into 1 stem. In this case, the first 5-6 sinuses should be torn off. After that, it is required not to touch the ovaries, but to break off the lateral shoots.

Attention! It is recommended to pick off yellow leaves.

It is necessary to water the bushes every other day or as the top layer of the earth dries up.
Planting should be fed every 10-15 days. As fertilizers, you can use ash, carbamide, superphosphate, potassium sulfate.
The recipe for feeding from organic matter, which must be done when flowering and tying greens: pour 0.5 l of mullein into a bucket of clean water, add 1 tbsp. a spoonful of nitroammofoska, thoroughly mix everything, then add 200 g of ash, 0.5 g of boric acid, 0.3 g of manganese sulfate. Consume 3 liters per 1 m².
Watering the bushes is often advised. Therefore, it is best to organize drip irrigation. Mulch from straw or sawdust should be placed on the ground so that weeds do not grow, moisture does not evaporate so quickly.

To prevent pests from attack, the bushes need to be sprayed with a solution of 1 g of carbamide and 1 liter of water. But we must not forget that urea makes the earth more acidic, therefore, it is required to add ash, dolomite flour with it.
Attention! Most often, the bushes begin to get sick with downy mildew.
It can be detected by the fact that the foliage shows a faded green specks, which are becoming larger and larger. And after 7 days, the spots turn brownish, and after another 5 days the leaves completely dry out. In case of plant diseases, they must be sprayed with a warm (+ 24 ° C) solution of 20 g of Polycarbacin and 8 liters of clean water. Then the greenhouse needs to be ventilated.
In autumn, the bushes are required to be sprayed with a solution of 3 tbsp. spoons of copper sulfate and 8 liters of water.
