The summer resident's dream is crispy tasty cucumbers, which ripen early and amicably, and in order to prepare them for future use, until tomatoes, peppers and eggplants poured in in a mighty stream. Hybrid cucumber Baron allows you to "unload" the second half of summer, postponing the hassle of preserving them to June.

General information about the variety

The domestic agrofirm "Poisk", the leading domestic producer of seeds, in 2012 released on the market new cucumbers, variety Baron (series "Author's varieties and hybrids"). The hybrid was immediately included in the State Register as recommended for cultivation in open and protected ground beds in the Central and Northwest regions.

With no less success, it is grown to the south, getting good harvests by early summer.

Cucumber Baron

Characteristics and description of the variety

Why Baron F1 cucumbers are interesting, what attracts summer residents and professionals - the answer is given by the description of the variety:

  • Productivity - up to 13 kg / m2, i.e. refers to high-yielding.
  • The type of pollination is parthenocarpic, the cucumber is grown in open ground, greenhouses, greenhouses and houses on the windowsill, since it does not need pollinating insects.
  • The ripening period is 40-48 days after germination, after a month and a half you can enjoy fresh cucumbers or start canning.
  • The varietal feature of cucumbers is considered to be good taste, the absence of bitterness, and a long preservation of the presentation. The fruits tolerate transportation well.

Note! The cucumber is resistant to cladosporia - olive (brown) spot, a frequent but unwanted guest in greenhouses and greenhouses, especially in regions with hot summers.

Fruit characteristic - small, gherkin type, maximum length 12 cm, do not overripe. The shape is neat, cylindrical, up to 4.5 cm in diameter, with a tuberous surface. The maximum weight of one fruit barely reaches 100 g.

The plant itself is a bush of medium height, medium climbing. The leaves are green, characteristic of cucumbers. Flowers of the female type are formed at the nodes in bunches.

Brief description of cultivation technology

When creating a new variety, the specialists of the agricultural firm were guided by the principle: no difficulties in growing.

Sowing dates

The Baron is suitable for growing in open and sheltered beds, the timing of sowing seeds for seedlings is from March to May inclusive. They sow in open ground from the beginning of June, when the risk of frost is negligible (from mid-May in the south).

Important! Seeds sprout a few days after sowing, seedlings grow rapidly. To minimize the stress from transplanting, sowing is carried out no later than 3 weeks before moving young plants to a permanent place.

Soil and container for seedlings

Usually they use ready-made potting mixes sold in specialized stores. To bring them in line with the requirements of cucumbers, rotted sawdust and vermicompost are added to them in a ratio of 1: 1: 0.5.

The substrate is immediately "charged" with fertilizers (per 10 liters of substrate):

  • wood ash, about half a glass;
  • a third teaspoon of urea;
  • half a teaspoon of superphosphate.

Grow cucumber seedlings in small pots with a diameter of up to 10 cm from pressed cardboard, peat or plastic disposable dishes of a suitable size.

Remember! Drainage holes are required!

Seed preparation

The process does not take much time, since all seeds are fully processed even before packing by the manufacturer. All that remains is to soak them with melt, rain or spring water, although this is not necessary for hybrid varieties.

Sowing

Seeds are sown according to the method:

  • The cups are filled with a substrate and spilled with hot (no more than 70 ° C) water.
  • When the soil cools down, make small depressions with a depth of 1.5-2 cm and the same diameter.
  • The seeds are placed in the holes and sprinkled with a substrate.

Attention! When planting seeds that have hatched (pre-soaked), be careful not to damage fragile seedlings.

Growing conditions for seedlings

In order for the seedlings to grow strong, healthy, it is provided with the following conditions:

  • Bright diffused lighting for 10-12 hours / day. If necessary, create an artificial supplementary lighting.
  • Maintaining the daytime temperature at + 19-22 °, night - + 15-17 ° C.
  • Air humidity 70-80%.

Seedling care rules

Watering. For the first few days, the soil is kept moist by spraying water from a spray bottle. under the stream, the seeds can fall deeper into the ground. When the cotyledon leaves are formed, they switch to the traditional method of watering. The optimum water temperature is 28-30 °.

Note! So that the seedlings do not stretch out, they select a place with a temperature from 13 ° at night to 19 ° during the day for the first 3-4 days after germination.

Watering cucumbers

Top dressing. Fertilizers are applied once, a few days before planting in the garden. Complex mineral fertilizers are used prepared in accordance with the instructions.

On a note! If the instruction does not give special recommendations for feeding seedlings, the concentration of the nutrient solution is made 2 times lower. The dosage for 1 plant is half a glass of solution.

Treatment against pests and diseases... It is recommended to use biological agents, for example, "Rizoplan", since they are non-toxic and applicable in confined spaces.

Biological preparation "Rizoplan"

Hardening. The event is necessary before planting in unprotected beds or greenhouses. For greenhouses, it is not necessary to harden seedlings.

Outdoor cultivation

When preparing the beds, the Baron's preference for light, highly fertile soil with good drainage and neutral acidity is taken into account. Optimally high groundwater location.

From seed

Seeds are sown when the soil warms up to 10-12 °. Planting pattern 90 × 50 cm, planting depth 4-5 cm.

It is ideal to keep the crops under the foil for the first week. A light cover keeps the soil moist and warm, preventing the seeds from overcooling during unexpected cold snaps. Crops are opened daily for 10-15 minutes.

From seedlings

Seedlings are planted in beds according to a scheme similar to sowing seeds.

Additional Information! For greenhouse cultivation, the sowing / planting pattern is 120 × 60 cm. Greater distance between plants is required for better ventilation - this prevents the development of fungal diseases.

Caring for Baron cucumbers is carried out according to the general rules, paying attention to the nuances:

  • Watering plentiful, regular, only with warm water, after sunset;
  • Requires a garter to the supports.
  • Pinching of lateral shoots is not needed.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

On a note!The main advantage of Baron hybrid cucumbers is cold resistance, the ability to grow and get a full harvest in the north of the Central and North-West regions, not only in greenhouses, but also in open ground beds.

  • Cucumbers Baron is a self-pollinating hybrid, there is no need to take measures to attract pollinators, especially since there is no need to engage in manual pollination in a greenhouse;
  • cucumbers are resistant to most fungal and viral diseases, including cucumber mosaic;
  • the duration of fruiting is 2.5-3 months. - having sown cucumbers for the greenhouse at the beginning of March, the first harvest is obtained in May, in the open field they are harvested until the end of August;
  • declared as a salad variety, great for home canning;
  • freshly picked cucumbers contain an increased amount of vitamins and are recommended for baby food.

Cucumber harvest Baron

The disadvantages include the inability to collect their own seeds.

The beam-type Baron is perfect for those summer residents who visit their plots only on weekends. A large number of ovaries in a knot inhibits the growth of fruits, so even with a weekly harvest, there will be no overgrown cucumbers. The agrotechnics of the variety, which almost completely coincides with other varieties in terms of timing, allows you to replace the old familiar cucumbers with new ones without stress - the Baron F1 hybrid, which has considerable advantages.
