Cucumber Atlantis is an early maturing and high-yielding hybrid bred in the early 2000s by the Dutch agricultural firm Bejo Zaden. A little later, the variety was entered into the state register of the Russian Federation. It is suitable for cultivation in orchards and small farms.

Description of the variety

Atlantis is a female-flowering cucumber variety pollinated by insects. It can be grown both outdoors and indoors. The height of an adult plant is about 2 m. The beginning of fruiting is 45-52 days after planting, and the amount of yield per bush varies from 4 to 7 kg.

Cucumber Atlantis

Small fruits weighing 100-120 g have a regular cylindrical shape and a dark green color. The length of the fruit is 10-12 cm, and the diameter is 3 cm. Cucumbers are distinguished by their dense structure, good crunchiness and lack of bitterness (except for fruits plucked during the late flowering period).

Growing features

It is preferable to grow cucumbers of this variety outdoors, as this will simplify the process of pollination of plants. Seeds are planted in warm (from 15 ° C) and moist soil.

Important! The daytime temperature at the time of landing should be at least 18C °.

Before planting, it is recommended to soak the seeds in a weak solution of manganese. The treated seeds are planted in moist soil to a depth of no more than 3 cm. The distance between the holes should be from 40 to 50 cm. To improve germination, the seedlings are covered with foil. Shoots appear on the 3-5th day, and the fruit ovary begins on the 50th day.

Growing

They also practice the seedling method of growing cucumbers. To do this, use peat tablets or ordinary plastic cups. Before planting, the seeds are treated with disinfectants. Later, when stable warm weather is established, the sprouts are planted in open ground or in a greenhouse.

Important! When grown in seedlings, the fruits appear 10-14 days earlier than with direct planting of seeds in the ground.

Care

Atlant cucumbers do not require careful maintenance. The plant can withstand a lack of light and will thrive even in a shaded area. It is not necessary to pinch them.

Proper and consistent care is required

Watering is preferable in the evening using warm water. Top dressing with mineral fertilizers rich in phosphorus and potassium should be done several times per season: a week after planting, before flowering, at the stage of ovary formation.

Diseases

Atlantis is immune to many diseases of cucumbers, among them cladosporium, cucumber mosaic and powdery mildew. However, plants can be affected by root rot; to prevent the disease, the seeds are soaked in disinfecting solutions before planting.

Important! Most often, the development of root rot occurs in acidic soils. The preferred balance is pH 6.5.

For the prevention of diseases, it is recommended to spray the plants with a solution of copper sulfate once every few weeks.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The advantage of Atlant cucumbers is unpretentious care and high yield. Due to their good taste, cucumbers can be eaten fresh, for example, in summer salads, and also used for preparations for the winter. And their greatest advantage is resistance to most common diseases.

The disadvantages of this variety include the features of pollination, it occurs with the help of insects. In addition, the obligatory seed treatment before planting and the susceptibility of plants to root rot is a clear minus of Atlantis cucumbers.
