The classic planting of cucumbers in the ground is not the only option. Even cucumbers from the greenhouse will surprise no one. Therefore, gardeners every year come up with all kinds of new ways of cultivating cucumbers, creating the most favorable conditions for them. So, the most unusual landing methods include landing in barrels, plastic bottles, bags, etc. Cultivation of cucumbers in tires is gaining popularity. This method has many advantages.

Cucumbers in tires: growing

The main advantages of this technology are:

  • unusual design of the garden;
  • compactness of the plantation, saving the area of the site;
  • good frost resistance;
  • easy to harvest;
  • being high above the ground, the plant does not freeze;
  • whips and antennae do not need to be tied;
  • plants do not get sick, because it is more difficult for harmful microorganisms to get to them;
  • planting can be done twice in one season.

Cucumbers in wheels are not only a new way to grow an early harvest, but also an unusual decoration of a summer cottage.

The first step is to find old tires. To create a vertical bed structure, you will need 3-4 tires. They need to be stacked on top of each other, each filled with different components, thus creating the appearance of a cylindrical structure. The first tire can be filled with garden waste: sawdust, wood chips, herringbone branches, grass.

Cucumbers in tires

Important! When filling the tire, you should not use branches damaged by diseases, plants, they will only harm the crops.

The second tire is filled with hay, first it must be doused with urea. And the last, third tire is filled with a mixture of fluffed earth, peat, manure. Thanks to this filling of tires, the root system of cucumbers from the first days feels warm, which significantly accelerates their growth.

Making a "warm" bed does not require much effort and time.

To fill it, not so much material is required, which is very economical and low-cost compared to a conventional garden bed. It is better to form it in the fall, then during the winter the contents will be well compacted, and the organic matter will grind and give more heat. The warmed-up soil will promote early germination.

Also, for the convenience of watering in the center of the structure, it is necessary to dig in a pipe with holes along the entire perimeter. The day before planting, the bed must be watered abundantly so that the soil is moist. And the final stage will be the planting of seeds or sprouted cucumber seedlings.

How to properly plant cucumbers in tires

To get a good harvest, you need to consider several important points.

  • Cucumbers are thermophilic plants, so planting should be started when the weather is stable, in mid-April or already in May. Then you can plant both seeds and seedlings.
  • Before planting seeds in the garden, they need to be prepared. First of all, the seeds should be disinfected by soaking for 20-30 minutes in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Then the seeds are washed and placed in a transparent container with clean water until they germinate.
  • It is necessary to plant seed no deeper than 2 cm into the previously loosened soil. After that, the bed should be covered with glass, agrofibre, cans or bottles, thus creating a small greenhouse.

It is important to choose the right soil

When planting seedlings, you should adhere to this algorithm:

  1. make 3-4 holes depending on the diameter of the wheel;
  2. pour water over the holes, add a small amount of compost or rotted manure to it;
  3. you need to plant seedlings together with the land in which it grew;
  4. at the end of planting all seedlings, the garden should be watered abundantly.

Important! If it is cloudy outside, seedlings can be planted throughout the day, and if the sun is shining, in the late afternoon.

If the weather is still not warm enough, the seedlings can be covered with cut-bottom bottles or a structure made of arcs and foil can be built. This will protect the sprouts from the cold; every day it is necessary to remove the film to air the culture. After complete adaptation of the seedlings, covering materials can be removed.

Further care and reproduction

After the onset of stable heat, the bottles are removed from the plants. Cultivation of cucumbers in wheels involves regular loosening, watering, mulching, garter, feeding, pinching. After rain or watering, the cucumber patch must be loosened around the sprout to a depth of 4-6 cm.

Note! You need to water such beds every day, then the organic matter will generate a lot of heat, and the stem will grow faster. Watering is desirable in the evening.

So that the moisture evaporates less, and the top layer does not dry out, the bed must be mulched, covering the soil between the plants with any of the materials - tyrsa, sawdust, hay, film, small pebbles, peat, humus.

Planting cucumbers in cylinders from a car has its advantage. It is not necessary to tie up such beds, the whips will go down the walls of the tires. But by driving the pegs into the ground and tying cucumbers, you can provide the plant with more sunlight, which will speed up the fruit setting.

During the growth process, the plant needs a large amount of nutrients. Therefore, it is worth purchasing a ready-made chemical fertilizer or preparing an organic mixture yourself. To do this, pour chicken droppings, weeds and herbs in an old container with warm water, letting them infuse for 1-2 weeks. Pour the cucumbers with the prepared mixture 2-3 times a week.

Cucumbers in barrels and tires can be a beautiful decoration of the garden

Pinching the sprouts will be beneficial for their breeding, which will promote the growth of lateral stems with female inflorescences and increase yields.

Advice! When the plant already has 6-8 leaves, and there are no side shoots yet, the top can be pinched.

Also, unnecessary leaves should be cut off so that the cucumbers are not cramped. They will grow and develop faster if there is space between them, and water, air, light will calmly fall into the garden.

This step-by-step tire cultivation of cucumbers will yield a good harvest. It is important to collect fruits on time, this will enable the plants to set new ones faster.

Preparing for winter

When the summer cottage season is over, and the entire crop is harvested and sent for storage, it is important to prepare the beds for winter. This is necessary in order to avoid depletion of the land, to restore its fertility for the next crops.

This preparation can be done in one of the following ways:

  • fertilization of the earth;
  • mulching;
  • planting green manure.

The first method is to fertilize with manure, but do not bury it, but place it on the soil along with the remaining tops from cucumbers. However, if there is no manure, you can fertilize with ash. To do this, you need to burn the cut branches of trees, bushes, old boards, newspapers, paper, this will be the best organic fertilizer.

Cucumbers need watering

Mulching the bed will help maintain the fertility of the soil and it will not deplete during the winter. To do this, you just need to cover the bed with tops, grass, leaves, and cover it with cardboard on top. This method will be able to saturate the earth with useful substances, and also prevent it from freezing in severe frosts.

Another way is to plant siderates. They ensure the correct crop rotation. This means that with correctly selected green manures, one and the same crop can be planted on one bed for many years in a row.So, the following siderates are suitable for cucumbers:

  • oil radish;
  • spring rapeseed;
  • phacelia;
  • mustard.

You do not need to bury them after the emergence of plants, these are unnecessary worries. It will only be necessary to ensure their growth, and the microorganisms in the soil will process everything into useful substances.

Such beds need to be completely disassembled in 2-3 years, because organic matter will completely decompose during this time and cease to emit heat.
