Growing features

Cucumber Senior Lieutenant is suitable for planting both in greenhouses and in the open field. The sowing time depends on this. When cultivating plants in unheated greenhouses, it is necessary to sow seeds in mid-May. If the cucumbers are grown in the ground, you can start sowing seeds in early June.

Important! The most optimal temperature for seed germination ranges from 22 to 28 degrees. Seeds are sown into the ground to a depth of no more than 2 cm.

Since the Junior Lieutenant's cucumber loves the sun, the area where the cucumbers are supposed to be grown should be well lit. The plant grows and develops much more actively and faster on light soil with a high fertility rate.

Growing features

Cucumbers can be grown in two ways:

  • Seedling. It makes it possible to get the first harvest 1 - 2 weeks earlier. To do this, the seeds are disinfected by soaking them for 20 - 30 minutes in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Then the seeds are germinated by placing them on damp gauze for 2 - 3 days. The last step in preparing cucumber seeds is to place them in the refrigerator for 24 hours. Now they can be sown in 450 - 500 ml containers. Each container is filled with soil, which consists of equal parts of peat, wood ash and humus. It is recommended to water the seedlings once every 4 to 5 days. Seedlings will be ready for planting in the ground after 25 - 35 days, when 3 - 4 true leaves are formed.
  • Seedless. For this, the seeds are also subjected to preliminary preparation. It is recommended to water the prepared beds with hot water and leave them alone for 24 hours. The next day, the seeds are sown in the holes.

Caring for cucumbers does not require any special skills. It consists in carrying out such manipulations:

  • Weeding. On the beds, it is necessary to remove weeds and loosen the soil as necessary.
  • Watering. Better to use warm water. During the formation of the ovary, plants need to be watered every 4 to 6 days. When the fruits grow, watering should be carried out every 3 to 4 days. Water should not fall on the leaves, but only on the soil near the plant's horses. Otherwise, the leaves may turn yellow and fall off.
  • Top dressing. During the season, plants need 4 - 5 single feeding. For this, mineral and organic fertilizers are used.
  • Tying... You can use special wooden supports or strong twine. You need to tie up cucumbers as they grow.

Subject to the rules for growing cucumbers of the Junior Lieutenant variety, you can get a fairly high yield of delicious cucumbers.
