The variety was bred in the Netherlands in the 90s of the XX century; since 1994, the sale of seeds has been allowed in Russia. Ramona's potatoes are highly rated among summer residents and large agricultural producers. He is loved for the ideal tuber shape, low percentage of small-fruited yield and the highest taste.

Variety characteristics

Raymonda potatoes (also called Romano or Ramona) are medium early varieties. The ripening period for potatoes is 2.5 months.

The climate of the southern regions of Russia and Ukraine allows you to get a crop twice in 1 year.

Description of Ramona Potatoes:

  • The peel is smooth and thick, pink in color;
  • Tubers are elongated or round with a flat surface;
  • The pulp is light with a yellow undertone;
  • The eyes are small, go deep into the tuber;
  • The average starch content is 15%, the indicator is high, which means that the potatoes boil well during the cooking process;
  • The tubers are medium in size, with a maximum weight of 90 g.

Variety characteristics:

  • The highest rate of suitability for sale - 94%;
  • The tops are powerful, the trunk is high and straight, the inflorescences are small, purple;
  • Potato yield from 1 bush - 9 pcs., Total weight - up to 800 g;
  • Productivity, depending on the soil and the region of planting, ranges from 110-340 c / ha;
  • Does not germinate after prolonged storage.

Growing features

Ramona potatoes give a stable harvest, regardless of the growing region.

Planting time depends on weather conditions. It is important that the ground is warmed up, the ideal temperature for planting is 15-20˚С. In the southern regions, planting begins in mid-April, and in Moscow and the region, planting operations take place at the end of May - beginning of June.

Before boarding, the following conditions must be met:

  1. The varieties bred in the Netherlands are highly degenerate. Therefore, it is periodically necessary to update the planting material and use varietal potatoes for planting. Potatoes weighing 80 g can be used as seed, smaller tubers need to be planted 2 pieces in 1 hole;
  2. Germination of the material must be done 1 month before planting;
  3. Site selection and soil preparation. The site should be well lit, with deep groundwater. If the groundwater is close to the surface, then potatoes should be planted in ridges 40 cm high. The soil should be loose.

Care includes watering, loosening and feeding. Watering is very important in the phase of active growth and development of the plant. You need to water the potatoes three times: after germination, during flowering and 2 weeks after mass flowering. The next day after watering, you need to loosen the soil, remove weeds and feed the plant. Hilling is usually done twice. The first time, when the tops reach a height of 10 cm, the second time after 2 weeks.

To increase yields a week before harvesting, you need to mow the tops so that they do not take up nutrients.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The weak points of this variety are the instability to frost, possible difficulties in peeling potatoes due to the thick peel and low immunity against scab and nematodes.

Moreover, this variety of potatoes has a number of advantages over other varieties:

  • High palatability allows using root vegetables in the preparation of salads, soups, mashed potatoes and other dishes;
  • No difficulties with storage and transportation;
  • Easily tolerates dry season and long absence of moisture;
  • Very low scrap rate, which makes this variety very popular for growing on an industrial scale;
  • High resistance to diseases and pests;
  • Responsive to additional care: the more attention is paid to this plant, the greater the yield it brings.
