Xin Xin Dian: breed of chickens, description

Xin Xin Dian's homeland is China. The purpose of breeding this breed of chickens was to obtain a high egg production rate and a lower body weight. The Russian poultry farmer N. Roshchin became interested in the work of Chinese scientists (within the walls of the Shanghai Institute), thanks to him, the breed was brought to Russia. Xin Xin Dian is not a blue hen and does not lay blue hen eggs, even the affectionate name "blue" is not entirely appropriate here, this long name is translated as "a hen that lays green eggs."

Characteristics of the breed

Chickens are beautiful, stately, they lay delicious and very nutritious eggs. They have a friendly character, they quickly adapt to a new environment (person).

The chicks hatch quite strong, hardy, have a high survival rate (98%). In color, chicks of chickens can be black with white spots, yellow, copper. They grow and fledge quickly, with proper feeding, by 2 months they can reach 0.7-0.8 kg. The food is traditional: chopped boiled eggs, cottage cheese, with the gradual inclusion of cereals and herbs. Vitamins and minerals are added according to the manufacturer's directions.

There are many questions about which hens lay which eggs: there is an assertion that brown eggs are laid only by yellow or copper-colored hens, and blue color is obtained only from black layers, but this is not at all the case. Xin Dian's postulate that black chickens lay black eggs is also not true.

Which chickens lay green and blue eggs? Here we can say that they are the same, since at the beginning of laying the eggs have a turquoise hue (a mixture of green and blue), and then they acquire a distinct blue or green color. Blue eggs of chickens indicate a non-purebred Xin Dian, most likely this is his hybrid with a Chinese breed.

Walking

The walking area becomes a prerequisite on warm days, where chickens catch small insects, get pasture. Xin Xin Dian fly well, so it is advisable to secure the territory with a lattice canopy or a very high fence.

Density

For 1 sq. m - no more than 6 individuals. Roosts are installed at the rate of at least 40 cm of space per bird.

Conditions of detention

Lighting

Daylight hours must be at least 12 hours, no more than 14. These parameters, in particular, must be observed in winter, otherwise the egg production process will noticeably decline. Exceeding this norm is fraught with weight loss and rapid aging of chickens.

Temperature and humidity

The best egg production is observed at 12-14 ° C. House temperatures should not drop below 10 ° C or rise above 20 ° C. Chickens do not tolerate cold temperatures, frosts, dampness. In winter, it is advisable to heat the chicken coop, walking only in warm seasons.

Litter

The floor of the chicken coop must be covered with bedding, for this they use dry sawdust, straw, peat (it perfectly absorbs moisture). Cleanliness and dryness of the litter is the main condition for disease prevention.

Bath

A container with ash or sand (or both, in equal proportions) is organized in the public domain.

Molting care

During the autumn molt, the bird needs special nutrient-rich nutrition and warmth. At this moment, the chickens stop laying eggs, saving the scarce resources of the depleted organism. The molting process is quite difficult and painful for Xin Xin Dian. The skin is extremely sensitive to pain, even minor injuries cause bleeding of the papillae of growing feathers.

Feeding

Chickens eat quite a bit, so it is especially important that they get all the necessary nutrients (proteins, fats, carbohydrates). Feeding recommendations:

1. The grain component should contain 50% corn, the remaining half - wheat, oats, barley and other cereals;
2. Every day, at least 40% of the menu should be juicy feed: greens, vegetables. In summer, there are no problems with this, but in winter it is a little more complicated - it is necessary to use coniferous, herbal flour in wet mash.
3. Vitamin supplements - 2-3 times a week;
4. Foods rich in animal protein should be regularly (worms, meat, fish waste);
5. Periodic consumption of yeast, sprouted grains and fish oil has a positive effect on the immune system and plumage;
6. High egg production requires significant nutritional costs; chickens need mineral supplements with a high amount of calcium, salt, ground shells and bone meal every day. Dried seaweed makes the shells stronger and the yolk more intense yellow.
7. Probiotics in the diet reduce the risk of contracting salmonellosis, improve the state of immunity;
8. Gravel - helps to grind food, with a lack of it, 20% of the food will not be absorbed by the body;
9. Clean and fresh water must be available all the time.

Advantages and disadvantages

Like any breed, Xin Xin Dian has its positive and negative sides.

Advantages of Xin Xin Dian chickens:

Minuses:

Multi-colored eggs, of course, attract poultry farmers, and there are not many breeds capable of laying eggs so beautifully. What other chickens lay green eggs? Similar green-blue eggs are also laid by the Araucana chickens, according to the description, which are capable of bringing up to 180 pieces, which is significantly worse than Xin Xin Dian. Araucan chicken has an amazing taste, but Xin Dian is no worse in this regard.
