Even if a person has recently begun to engage in poultry farming, he may well breed geese, since they are completely unpretentious. The farmer needs to provide the chicks with a diet and conditions for their living and health. When the chick begins to mature, the diet is changed. But few know how to feed goslings in the early days at home.

The importance of nutrition

Goslings need to be fed correctly, the physiology of these birds is that they grow quite quickly, eat a lot, so experienced farmers often prepare food for them.

Already one week old babies can be taught to the street, where they can find food on their own. The diet should contain all the nutrients, but if the chick is only one day old, its diet will differ from the two weeks.

In the case when the farmer wonders what to feed the day-old goslings bred in the incubator, he should know that they are being given the same thing as the usual ones that the brood hen reared.

Goose

In addition, the light regime is important. 1 week will require lighting around the clock, the lights are dimmed at night. In the dark, chicks will not find food or water. As soon as the goslings are 7 days old, the light regime can be reduced to 16 hours. However, they do not do this right away: they reduce daylight every day by 20 minutes.

When leaving, you cannot do without a thermal regime. The chicks have not yet developed thermoregulation, so they are not allowed out into the street until they reach a week of age. If the temperature is low, they begin to bunch up in a heap, and some of the chicks will die from suffocation. If the temperature is too high, then the stock will be too sluggish and will not be able to grow properly.

Note. Experienced farmers recommend installing infrared lamps in the poultry house or house to achieve the best temperature.

How to feed chicks properly

In order for the birds to eat right, certain dietary rules must be followed. Little goslings can get sick, especially they often have diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. As a result, you should consider the diet for the chicks. Only fresh food should be added.

Important! Let them dry before feeding newly hatched goslings. Until this moment, it is forbidden to feed them, you can only touch them if necessary and with your gloved hands.

From birth

When it is noticed that the chicks are dry, they begin to give them food. To do this, take special feeders, which must be located next to the source of heat and light. But what to feed the newborn goslings, that is the question. On the very first day, boil an egg, grind it, or you can take cottage cheese, of course, fresh.

In the early days, the goslings are given a boiled chopped egg

They must be mixed with any of the following:

  • Herb, for example, clover, dandelions, you can even take a feather of an onion or garlic. The proportion is one to one.
  • Peas in a crushed state.
  • Bran.
  • Corn grits.
  • Carrots in a grated state, than feeding daily goslings is also possible.
  • Special compound feed.
  • Bread crust or bread itself, but it should be soaked.

The goslings are given food 8 times a day, every 2 hours.

The question of how to feed goslings from the first days of life at home should be taken responsibly: no fermented milk products, because their stomach is not yet adapted for this, an upset may occur. The water must always be clean and fresh.

Drinking bowl for goslings

When the bird is 2 days old, or it is three days old, it can be released into the fenced area if the weather is good. They give a plus to the egg clover or finely ground corn grits.

Seven days

So, the goslings have reached this age. Now you can give them root vegetables, for example, potatoes, in the amount of 20 grams, or beets, but they need to be boiled.

In addition, the following meals are possible:

  • Mineral feeding, for example, shells, they are crushed or bone meal is taken.
  • It is also good to give fish oil.
  • You can take the cake, but before adding it is usually brewed with boiling water.
  • You can also add 5 grams of nutritional yeast.

Shellfish are added to the food for goslings

Take a broth 50 gr., Made on meat or yogurt, soaked in it feed.

Important! Such a mess should not be sticky, otherwise it will clog the nasal passages, as a result of which the gosling may get sick or even die.

So that the chicks have the prevention of pathologies, a little potassium permanganate is bred in the water.

On average, one gosling should receive 130 g of food. Eggs are no longer given, the frequency of feeding is less.

2 weeks

They give food 5 times a day, much more food - 170 g. Now the main task of the poultry farmer is to understand why he needs geese: for meat or for the tribe, a specific feeding scheme will come from here.

Compound feed for goslings

If a farmer wants to use goslings for meat, he needs to give them large portions of food, he needs mixed feed. Thus, at 2 months, the pet will weigh about 4 or 5 kg.

If they want to breed geese, they give greens and peas, they pour grain overnight, and a two-month-old goose will weigh 3 and a half kg.

In this case, greens should make up 50% of the diet, it should be chopped. They give 7% oil cake, 0.5% table salt. You can also give legumes. Root vegetables can already be fed raw.

Important! Root vegetables must be fresh, mold-free, and finely chopped. Cases were recorded when goslings swallowed in large chunks and died.

One month

Interesting fact. If at birth the gosling was yellow, by the 21st day of life it is already white or of a different color, depending on the breed.

The daily norm is 150 g, the diet consists of a variety of products. Usually geese are allowed to walk, where they can nibble the grass themselves. That is, in the morning they are given a mash, in the afternoon they are allowed to walk on the grass, and in the evening they are poured out grain mixtures.

Experimentally, the poultry farmer independently finds out what kind of food the geese prefer, and bone meal and various vitamins are mixed into this food. Experienced farmers say that cake should be added there, in a ratio of one to four. However, it is given only once every 4 days, not more often, so that problems with the gastrointestinal tract do not arise.

Diet for goslings

If there is no such possibility for the geese to walk on the grass themselves, or it is winter in the yard, then you need to buy mowed grass or ask someone. Leftovers from the master's table are also given to goslings, this is allowed, but the food should not be spoiled.

At 1 month, it is allowed to give fish, which must be pre-boiled, as well as milk and fermented milk products. In order for the digestion of geese to be normal, a little gravel or sand is poured into the feeder.

What chicks can and cannot do

There is a list of permitted plants for poultry. Goslings can nibble dandelions, it is allowed to give them sedge, horsetail, carrot and beet tops are also useful for them. They can eat sorrel too, yarrow is recommended, horsetail and spurge can be pecked.

However, it is worth remembering that not a single goose knows where the poisonous herb is and where the useful one. Therefore, they are not allowed to peck potato tops, just like unripe potatoes.

Important! In no case should goslings be put into quinoa or given lilies of the valley.

If the gosling is weak

You can find this in any livestock, however, a small bird can be grown. Take the yolk of an egg, mix it with 1/2 cup of milk. Add one fourth teaspoon of sugar there. An antibiotic such as penicillin should be added to this mixture.

Some poultry farmers are afraid to use antibiotics, but when the gosling grows up, all traces of the drug in its body will disappear. Give such a mixture to the chicks until they recover. In addition, it is very important to immediately plant a sick chick from its healthy counterparts.

Antibiotic for the treatment of goslings

At first, the temperature in the poultry house is kept at 28 degrees, if the chicks are already 7 days old, then it is reduced to 23 degrees and maintained in this state until all patients recover.

It is also recommended to give Baitril to your goslings. This is a special medicine with antibacterial properties, experienced farmers advise giving it even to healthy goslings for prophylaxis.

Further Furazolidone is advised. They take two tablets, grind them, dilute them in one liter of water, this mixture should be given to weakened chicks. One tablet is prepared in exactly the same way for healthy goslings for prevention.

In conclusion, it should be said that it is not difficult to care for goslings, but any work will require responsibility. They are unpretentious birds, they can hatch in a month, they gain weight quickly enough, they grow just as quickly, health is good, if, of course, all the above principles are followed, only then can a healthy pet be raised.
