The history of the creation of the Pink Floyd variety

Schreurs BV, a plant breeding company in the Netherlands, has delighted flower lovers with a new deep pink hybrid tea. So, in 2004, a new flower became the namesake of the Pink Floyd group, well-known in England. The name hit the mark, because the rose fell in love with the beautiful half of humanity and in a short time gained millions of fans.

Rose Pink Floyd

Description

The Ecuadorian rose is grown on an industrial scale, but if you plan to decorate your garden with a chic variety, you should familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the plant:

  • Frost resistance. Pink Floyd rose can continue to bloom until the first frost appears. Therefore, with the arrival of autumn, you need to remove dried leaves and wait with pruning, otherwise the flowers will give new buds and shoots that will die during the first frosts. When the subzero temperature approaches, the shoots are cut off by about 25 cm and sprinkled with soil or peat, and then they are insulated (spruce branches, polyethylene, spunbond). In early spring, you need to take care to take off the "insulation" in time, otherwise the flowers may be oppressed.
  • Bloom lasts from June to October. In mild climates, it can last until frost. The Pinkfloyd species contains up to 40 dense petals in each bud. At the moment of blooming, they bend slightly outward.
  • Appearance. The plant is a shrub 1-1.5 meters high. One shoot contains from 1 to 3 goblet-shaped buds. The flowers grow quite large, up to 10 cm in diameter. The rosette is supported by a sturdy stem with bright green glossy leaves.

Note! Rose Pink Floyd has a delicate aroma with sweet notes and smells even under conditions of long transportation.

Growing features

To grow Pink Floyd roses in Russia, it is important to fulfill certain conditions

In the climate of Ecuador, Pink Floyd rose does not require careful maintenance, since the soil is fertilized with ash and has a unique soil, and the climate contributes to the year-round flowering of the bush. In natural zones of Russia, to obtain an adult bush of a hybrid tea rose from a seedling, you need to work a little and fulfill the following conditions:

  • good lighting and long daylight hours;
  • observance of the density of the crown for sufficient aeration;
  • fertile soil (loam of a neutral reaction is suitable);
  • abundant watering in the spring and summer period (up to 15-20 liters per adult bush once a week);
  • spring pruning and bush formation;
  • weeding or mulching (a mixture of cow humus and sawdust).

Important! In regions where temperatures in winter reach -25 degrees, the plant requires observance of autumn pruning and mandatory insulation.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The rose has come a long way from its classic look to its modern hybrid subspecies, but has not lost its charm. The Pink Floyd species has its own positive characteristics that distinguish it from other varieties:

  • large and dense bud with an ideal "glass" shape;
  • the petals are thicker in comparison with Russian and Dutch roses;
  • bright saturated fuchsia color;
  • strong stem and leaves;
  • the presence of a delicate aroma;
  • resistance to humid climates and long rains;
  • high threshold for diseases characteristic of the variety of hybrid tea roses.

The only drawback of the plant can be considered the need for insulation in regions with cold winters, but compared to its sisters, its frost resistance indicators are at an average level.

It is not an easy task to achieve the real look of a flower on your site, but with an effort and providing proper care, you will be able to admire the bright bloom of an amazing rose for many years.
