Rose Pierre de Ronsard is loved by many gardeners, and for good reason - this variety is considered a classic. It was bred in 1985 by a breeder from France, and was named so in honor of the French poet Pierre de Ronsard. This rose officially has the status of the most beloved rose in the world, it is so beautiful!

Since the French romantic de Ronsard, who lived in the 16th century, was known exclusively in France, the breeders decided to give the rose a second international name - Eden Rose. There are other roses in the world with the name Eden Rose, but they have a different variety. The Eden Rose is one of a kind.

Rose Pierre de Ronsard

Variety characteristics

The bush grows slowly, it can reach a height of 3 meters, but for normal growth, the plant needs a frame (hedge, fence, wall, arch). The branches are tough, but not too strong - they bend under their own weight and the weight of the flowers.

Note! In appearance, climbing roses are similar to roses that grow in the form of a trunk.

The foliage is rather dark, green, tough to the touch, shiny in appearance. There are few spikes.

The buds are rather large and dense, 9-15 cm long, resembling a cup in appearance. One bud consists of about 70 (or more) petals. The petals are long, large, thanks to this, the rose acquires a certain old charm. The color of these roses changes frequently, but mostly they are ivory, cream, lavender, light pink. The petals are similar in color to those of the Winfall cyclamen. The edging of the petals has a richer color than the core. At the edges, the roses have shades from light pink to hot pink. Sometimes, on the outside of the petals, roses are painted in a pale green, light green color.

The shape of the buds may vary depending on the region. In warm climates, the rose opens more magnificently, and where the summer is cool, the bud can only open halfway. The flower can be in the form of a cup, a rosette, or with petals twisted in the middle.

Additional Information! Many people choose this particular variety because it is very resistant to frost. For some, it is more important that the plant is remontant, that is, it blooms 2 times per season. However, it is worth noting that the Pierre de Ronsard rose blooms for the second time not as luxuriantly as the first.

In order for the Pierre Ronsard rose to please the eye with a marvelous landscape, you will have to wait 3 years. It is after 3 years from the moment of planting that the rose bush acquires a good increase, it looks magnificent and royal.

Agricultural technology of cultivation

Climbing roses Pierre de Ronsard are planted in spring, when the earth warms up well and the threat of frost is over. This period occurs at different times in different regions.

The place for the rose should be light, with air currents, but not in a draft. She prefers the land and sandy loam or loamy, necessarily loose.

Before planting, the earth is dug up, weeds are removed, a hole is dug into which humus is introduced (about half a bucket). You can add a potassium mixture, but you should carefully bury the fertilizer with earth, including humus, otherwise the roots will get burned. The pit is well moistened. The seedling is buried in the ground, immediately watered.

Important! Watering should not be intense, so as not to blur the roots. Further in the morning, you need to add a little water under the root so that the seedling takes root.

If the seedling is tall, after planting, it should be cut immediately so that the aerial part of the plant is 20 cm in length.

Rose Climbing Pierre de Ronsard will need a garter. The garter can be carried out only when the buds are large enough (3-5 cm), otherwise there is a risk of not waiting for flowering. The natural position for such a rose is horizontal. Therefore, if the branches are located on the support horizontally or at least in a spiral, the buds will grow and bloom intensively. But in an upright position, it is a little more difficult for the branches to constantly monitor and tie them up. In addition, you will have to use a trick - the top of the plant must be bent to the ground using some kind of weight or a garter. The crown should be below the main branch. This method helps the flowers grow more intensely.

Growing

It is better to cover the plant for the winter. To do this, first you need to bandage the bushes with natural material (spruce branches, dry foliage, rags, old clothes), and then wrap them with a covering material (geotextile, spandbond, lutrasil).

Note! It is advised to wrap the rose in a vertical way, because it is undesirable to bend it because of the hard branches that can break.

For regions with particularly severe winters, you can additionally build a temporary plywood house for roses. Covering material and a wooden frame will help the plant to survive the winter comfortably.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Compared to other varieties, the Pierre de Ronsard climbing rose has several advantages:

  • All gardeners know that roses are vulnerable to many diseases. But not this one. This rose is very resistant to many types of diseases and pests.
  • From the moment of flowering, the plant does not remain without flowers. As soon as the buds have wilted, the second wave of flowering begins immediately. Thanks to this, continuous flowering is maintained throughout the season, until the first frost.
  • Resistant to adverse weather conditions. Frost resistance is an important criterion. This culture can withstand frosts down to -30 degrees. But even in bad weather she is beautiful - she doesn't care about torrential rains or cold winds.
  • Amazing view. With the help of it, you can create a unique picturesque hedge in the country. The hedge is used for decoration, when zoning the site, for privacy.

Important! A support that has served for several years can become a source of infection and be dangerous to plants. As a preventive measure, in the spring, the structure should be cleaned and treated properly (sanding, painting or covering with water-repellent or anti-corrosion solutions).

There are also some downsides:

  • There is practically no smell, the aroma is very weak. But flower growers do not lose heart and advise planting next to jasmine, and assure that such a combination of aromas is delightful!
  • You need a solid, reliable frame. For the manufacture of the frame, materials will be required, which requires a certain financial investment.

Metal fences are not the best option for plants. In the heat, the metal heats up very much and burns the bushes, and at night it cools down and a striking contrast is created. Although the tree is natural, it quickly dries up and cracks. Plastic is the best option.

Bushes, carefully laid in lattices or nets with small holes, then, at the end of autumn, are very difficult to untangle. You do not need to cover the rose if the winter in the inhabited region is warm. And in regions with a harsh climate, it is advised to construct removable arches for roses in order to cover the plant along with the support, but in a horizontal position.

Unfortunately, many vendors sell roses that do not match the description. And when buying a rose Pierre de Ronsard, there is a risk of acquiring, for example, Grandiflora or another similar to it.
