Recently, there are more and more varieties of roses and there are many who want to plant these flowers. Any variety of domestic selection can become a donor for growing roses. Imported roses are not suitable for propagation, since they are treated with preservatives for their durability - this interferes with their rooting.

To determine the suitability of the stem for grafting, you need to break off one thorn - if the thorn comes off easily, you can graft. But the light brown and cracked bark is a sign that the shoot is categorically not suitable for cuttings, therefore, when selecting branches for cuttings, you need to separate plant fragments with a juicy greenish bark. A non-woody stem takes root better.

About the propagation of roses by cuttings

How to propagate roses by cuttings at home? There are several ways to do this:

  • Burito. Treat the bottom of the cutting with root or epin. Next, wrap the future seedling in damp paper and put it in a place where the air temperature does not exceed 18 ° C for a period of two weeks, after which small roots should form.
  • Rooting in a package. Before planting the cutting, cover the bag with a sterilized substrate or sphagnum moistened with aloe juice solution (1/9 with water). Place the handle inside the bag. Then let air into the bag, tie tightly and hang on the window. After 4 weeks, the cutting will take root.

Breeding roses by cuttings

  • Rooting in potato tuber. In the spring, you need to dig a trench 15 cm deep in a sunny and windy place. Pour a layer of pitch 5 cm thick at the bottom. Cut off all the eyes from the potatoes, stick a stalk into it and place everything in a trench. Bury everything with earth, leaving 1/3 on the surface. For the first few days, roses should be kept in a glass jar or bottle. Then, once every five days, pour a little sweet water (2 teaspoons of sugar per glass of water). After 2 weeks, you need to briefly remove the shelter and temper the roses. After another 2 weeks, remove the shelter.
  • Transplanting cuttings into open ground in the summer. This method is the most natural and the survival rate is much higher here. It is recommended to prune cuttings in the morning or evening. Here, recently faded stems or just blooming ones are more suitable.
  • Cutting roses from a bouquet. This method will be described below.
  • Rooting cuttings in the autumn-winter period. This method is applicable when the cuttings need to be saved until spring. Here you need to do the following: insert the cutting into the soil and put everything together in a place with low humidity.
  • Rooting with a container of water. Place the cuttings in a container with clean boiled water, poured 2.5-4 cm from the bottom. Refresh water from time to time. Leaves in a bright place without direct sunlight. Add a root growth stimulant if desired. After about 3-4 weeks, the cutting is ready for planting.

Important! The knife used to trim the cuttings must be sterilized and kept as sharp as possible.

The length of the cutting should be from 12 to 15 cm. 2-3 buds and the same number of leaves should be left on the cutting. Flowers from the cutting must be removed.

The oblique cut must be made directly below the bottom knot and 15-20 mm above the top knot.

Bottom leaves and thorns must be removed with any breeding method.

How to grow a rose from a cuttings at home

To retain moisture in the cuttings for a long time, you need to do one of the two suggested options:

  • cut out the remaining foliage;
  • shorten the leaves by 2/3 of the total on the branch.

In order for the rooting process to proceed faster and more successfully, it is necessary to place the bottom of the cutting in a solution that stimulates root formation and keep it there for 24 hours. For this purpose, a solution of heteroauxin or root is used, and you can also mix 200 g of water with half a teaspoon of bee honey and a few crushed rose leaves.

On the second day, cuttings can be taken out and placed for rooting:

  • into the ground;
  • in potato tubers;
  • in a container with water;
  • in a flowerpot.

On a note!The best time for cuttings is the spring-summer period.

Buying rose cuttings

Not everyone will agree to take responsibility and plant roses from the very beginning, which is why there are many options for buying rose cuttings. You can buy them on the shelves at the flower shop, or order them online.

It is preferable to buy cuttings directly from your hands. However, not every variety of roses can be found on the market, and there are many organizations on the Internet from which you can order them.

When buying cuttings of roses, you should make sure that there is no dusting, fungus, excess moisture on the product.

When ordering via the Internet, there is a risk of harming the plant, but thanks to modern quality conditions, the risk is minimized. Delivery by mail takes place in sealed containers with sanitary documents and adherence to modern quality standards.

Preparation of cuttings of roses and places for planting

After the cuttings have been cut and rooted, they can be transplanted to the main growing area.

To propagate roses at home was more convenient, you need to use a greenhouse. Mostly a small plastic container is used for these purposes.

In order for the roots to receive good nutrition, you need to pour a little nutrient soil into the container, and a little washed river sand on top. Sand can be replaced with vermiculite or perlite.

Next you need to:

  1. Drizzle.
  2. Place the handle in the middle and deepen it by one and a half cm.
  3. Cover with a transparent lid.

It is worth watering the cuttings when the sand on top dries up.

If the greenhouse fogs up and drops appear on its walls, you need to periodically air it. The desired temperature for growing a rose at home is from 22 to 27 ° C. Keep roses in a bright place. This way you can grow both indoor and garden roses.

Rules for caring for roses at home

The main components of caring for a rose at home:

  • watering;
  • top dressing;
  • pruning.

You need to water the plant regularly, because drying out the soil is dangerous for roses. Drying occurs faster in a small container. The most abundant watering is necessary in the summer. At the same time, it is not worth watering more than the norm. the soil may acidify. Improper watering can negatively affect roses in the autumn-winter period. It is necessary to reduce the amount of watering after the buds open. Water for irrigation should be warm and filtered. There are no clearly established doses for watering roses in pots, so everything here depends on microclimatic conditions.

You need to feed the plant in a pot more often, because the evaporation process is faster than in the open field. Fertilizing a home rose is required once every 14 days, changing nutrients and organic substances among themselves. It is possible to use standard fertilizers for flower crops.

To use the fertilizer correctly, you must dissolve them with water.

Note!On cold and cloudy days, flowers do not respond well to fertilization.

During the first month after purchase or transplantation, the plant should not be fertilized. It is also contraindicated to feed a bush affected by disease or parasites.

Cut off yellowed, dried leaves and wilted flowers during the growing season. If pruned on time, the bush will look neat and bloom early and lush. Flowers need to be cut to the first leaf, removing the weakened stems. Before the onset of winter, the stems should be shortened to a height of 10 cm. 4-5 buds should be left on all branches. Cut shoots can be used to propagate the rose.

Roses cuttings from a bouquet

How to grow a rose at home using bouquet flowers

Many novice flower growers love to experiment, trying to root the roses presented in the bouquet. There are several rules for grafting:

  • As soon as the bouquet appeared on the hands, it is immediately necessary to remove the flowers, buds and cut the stalk from the middle of the stem. The length of the handle here can be up to 30 cm.
  • All the lower foliage must be cut off, and the one that is located on top must be shortened by 1/3.
  • Next, place the cutting in a vase filled with distilled water.
  • Renew the water until the first roots are visible.
  • Then you can transplant the seedling into a pot or outside and cover with a jar.

Important!The stems should have three living buds of medium thickness.

This method of grafting is relevant for all seasons, provided that there is warm air in the room and the water is changed regularly. If the bouquet was received during late autumn or winter, then it is better to carry out the autumn-winter cuttings (this is indicated above).

It is better to germinate a rose from a bouquet outdoors. The cuttings need to be dug to a depth of 2 cm, while the lower bud should be under the soil, the upper one above it. The soil should be composed of all-purpose earth with sand or vermiculite (2: 1). It is advisable that the container has drainage holes. Immediately after planting, you need to pour it with warm water and cover with a film or a jar and put in a bright place (the acceptable temperature during the day is 25-30 ° C, at night - 18 ° C). Watering is necessary as needed, given that the soil must be constantly moist.

As soon as the first shoots appear, it is necessary to remove the film for five minutes, then, after two days, remove it completely. The plant should remain in a shaded area.

Using simple rose cuttings methods, you can turn a piece of stem into a full-fledged seedling. A rooted stalk will be no worse than a store-bought, expensive planting material.
