In the European community of breeders, the clear leader among geraniums is the April Snow pelargonium - a flower that resembles a delicate airy marshmallow. It was bred in the Swiss nursery Sutarve, where it was given the romantic name "April Snow" and was put in first place for decorativeness and splendor.
Characteristic
April Snow Pelargonium belongs to the rosebud variety of the variety. This category of pelargonium is capable of rapid growth, while remaining compact.
It is impossible to convey the unusual coloring of april snow of Pelargonium by description, it is a must-see. Its color directly depends on the growing conditions, and all the splendor of beauty is manifested under the influence of sunlight.
One and the same flower will grow completely different with limited access to light. Its petals will be deathly pale, thinned, with an aristocratic porcelain tint.
If you grow the flower under maximum light, the petals will acquire a delicate pink color, the edging of each will become bright red.
The core of each bud is painted in a dark green shade, it is surrounded by delicate, airy, corrugated petals, this combination resembles the first spring shoots that make their way through the April snow.

Growing features
Pelargonium April snow belongs to the zonal type. If you do not pinch it, the stem of the plant will stretch upwards, if properly formed, it will turn into a lush "paradise" bush.
The soil
In specialized flower shops they sell land for planting geraniums, it is better to buy it there. Each bag with soil is written for which plants it is intended for.
You can buy a universal land by adding components there that are better suited for April Dreams pelargonium, you can make the soil yourself by mixing:
- garden land - 3 parts;
- peat - 1 part;
- humus earth - 1 part;
- sand - 1 part.
Before planting, the ground is disinfected. There are several ways to do this:
- the prepared soil is poured into a metal container and fried in an oven or over a fire;
- freeze at low temperature;
- treated with fungicides;
- watered with a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
The land in the flower pot is changed every year.
Watering
Geraniums are often watered:
- with dry air and open windows;
- if it grows in an earthen pot;
- during the flowering period;
- in bright light and high air temperatures.
Pelargonium needs less watering:
- when planting in a plastic pot;
- in a state of winter dormancy;
- a week after transplant;
- at low air temperatures and in winter;
- with high humidity and lack of lighting;
- with poor ventilation of the room.
The shrub is watered at the root, for better moistening of the earth, water is poured into the pan.
An excess of moisture must not be allowed, soil moisture is checked at the edge of the pot at a depth of 1 cm, if it is dry, water it.
Fertilizer
All indoor plants have space limitations, so the land is quickly depleted and needs to be fed frequently. After planting pelargonium, the soil is depleted after 2.5 months. You can notice that April Snow geranium needs feeding by the following signs:
- the plant has become lethargic;
- the leaves have faded, hung, various spots appear on them;
- buds fall off, flowering slowed down;
- the stem has lost its elasticity.
Fertilize the soil with folk remedies:
- egg shells - crushed, filled with water for 3 days and poured over the ground with this infusion;
- water in which the cereals were washed;
- water after washing the fish;
- vegetable broths;
- tinctures of tea and coffee;
- yeast solution and tincture of onion peel;
- solution of ash and humus.
Folk fertilization methods fill the soil well with trace elements and do not require any costs.
In order not to harm the plant during feeding with organic matter, first the soil is watered with plain water, then the effect of fertilizers will not be so aggressive.
During the "winter rest", pelargonium does not need additional nutrition at all, it only makes the plants weakened.
Temperature regime, wintering
Almost all geranium varieties prefer an air temperature of 20-25 C, April Snow Pelargonium likes a cooler environment. It develops well and blooms at temperatures around 17-18 degrees Celsius. In winter, it feels comfortable at 12-15 degrees of heat, so this variety is successfully grown in the regions of Siberia.
When the plant has a "winter sleep", it can be placed on the windowsill, which is located on the north side. If the vents are opened for airing, the geraniums are removed from the windowsill so that the bush does not fall under a draft.
Reproduction
Before planting, the seeds are rubbed a little between the palms and squeezed slightly, then soaked in a manganese solution and a growth accelerator. In each solution, the seeds are kept for 1 hour.
Seeds are sown into the prepared soil to a depth of 0.3 mm at a distance of 5-6 cm from each other. Water the sowing and cover with a film to create a warm microclimate. Every day, open the film to air the sprouts and moisten the ground. When 2-3 leaves hatch on the shoot, they are transplanted into a flower pot.
After planting, a young bush is looked after like an adult plant.
Propagation by cuttings is the most popular and hassle-free way.
A stalk, 7-8 cm long, is cut from a strong and healthy bush and rooted in this way:
- on the cut off process, all the leaves and growths are cut off;
- slightly dry in the open air;
- placed in damp ground and left to take root.
Diseases
April Snow Pelargonium does not tolerate high humidity - it develops fungal diseases from dampness. The fungus appears in the form of a gray bloom on the stems and petioles, spots on the leaves, the ground near the trunk becomes moldy.
If a fungus appears, remove all affected leaves and process the bush
antifungal agent for indoor flowers "Fluconosol".
If the plant is severely affected by the disease, it is necessary to take healthy shoots from it, keep them in an antifungal drug and grow a new bush.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Fpril Snow Pelargonium has one drawback - the flower does not tolerate high humidity.
