The rose is perhaps the most famous and beautiful plant culture and the main decoration of many gardens. However, decorative roses, or indoor roses, are becoming increasingly popular, which are not difficult to care for even at home.

Features of decorative roses

As such, the class of decorative roses is not distinguished. However, there are many varieties that are suitable for breeding in a house or apartment. They are classified as decorative in view of common external signs and the ability to grow in small amounts of land. They are bred, as the name implies, purely for aesthetic purposes, since these flowers have a spectacular look and are able to decorate any home.

Appearance

All groups of indoor roses are similar in description. They have small leaves, medium-sized flowers up to 7 cm in diameter. The color of flowers can be different. The bushes are tiny and neat, reaching a height of 45-60 cm.

Dozens of varieties of indoor varieties are known and more and more are regularly bred. Best suited for home growing are remontant, miniature, Bengal, short polyanthus and some shrubs. Of the latter, the following varieties are especially popular among florists:

  • rose Rouge Meyandecor;
  • rose Colossal Meidiland;
  • rose Magic Meyandecor;
  • rose Ice Meyandecor.

Rouge Meyandecor variety

The Rouge Meillandecor rose is a beautiful groundcover variety. It was withdrawn in 1989. It has non-double velvet red flowers with a white core and yellow stamens. Flowers grow in clusters of 5-15 pieces over the entire surface of the bush. After the first phase of flowering, small rounded scarlet fruits appear, but since this variety is re-flowering, it pleases the eye with flowers until late autumn.

The bushes of this variety are thick with shiny dark green foliage. They can grow up to 150 cm in height, but are often cut to 40 cm. Like many ground cover roses, these plants tend to grow 2 m in width. They are suitable for planting in the garden, but they do well in small containers.

Colossal Meydiland variety

Colossal Meidiland rose was released in 1999. It has double strawberry-red flowers with a diameter of 6-8 cm, with a large number of petals. Kolossal Meidiland is distinguished by abundant flowering, which lasts from June until the onset of cold weather. The inflorescences are large and have 16-20 flowers per peduncle.

Colosal Meyandecor is very resilient. Its bushes are quite high, they can reach 120 cm in height, but when pruned to 50 cm, they begin to grow in width. Leaves are glossy, medium-sized, dark green.

Variety Magic Meyandecor

Magic Meidiland blooms with small semi-double flowers of dark pink color with a lighter eye in the center. On one peduncle there can be from 3 to 10 flowers with a delicate hawthorn aroma. Magic Meidiland rose is not very tall, grows up to 40-50 cm. Its shiny small leaves have a rich green color. Registered in 1995.

Ice Meyandekor variety

Ice Meidiland rose was bred in 1996. It immediately attracts attention with the contrast of white semi-double cupped flowers and bright green foliage. The height of the bushes is about 70 cm. The inflorescences are lush, 6-15 flowers per stem, keep until the frost.

Care advice

The above varieties are quite unpretentious in care.They are very weakly susceptible to disease, recover well from mechanical damage and do not need frequent watering.

Note! These plants take root in almost any soil, if it is not very acidic.

A sunny, not too windy place at a distance of 2-3 meters from other plants is suitable for planting in the garden, since these roses are able to fill someone else's territory with their shoots. Therefore, periodically, usually in the spring, they should be pruned and thinned out.

High frost resistance from -40 to -20 ° С allows not to make shelters for the winter for these varieties.

Important! Stamp roses for the winter must be covered.

The flowering period is delayed for several months, and the faded flowers themselves are replaced by new ones, so it is not necessary to manually cut them. Most of the varieties listed above have a low odor, so this is not the best choice for a fragrant garden. However, they are all great for grafting on boles, creating hedges and decorating garden paths.

Growing decorative roses in a pot

Decorative rose should receive proper care at home. It is important that the plant has enough sun, therefore, you should choose a bright room with good air circulation. The air should be humid, as dry air increases the risk of pest infestation. Therefore, it is worth spraying the air around the rose every two days.

There must be enough space in the container with the plant for the root system to develop correctly. It is also helpful to pay attention to the material of the container. A ceramic or wooden pot is ideal.

Note!In plastic and clay containers, the soil quickly loses moisture. This can cause the buds on the rose to dry out.

For potting soil, both special store mixes and independently mixed substrate are suitable. It includes:

  • 4 pieces of turf;
  • 4 parts of humus;
  • 1 part river sand.

Whatever the container for planting, it must have a good drainage system so that water does not stagnate in the ground. Excess moisture provokes fungal diseases in roses.

Indoor roses are an excellent alternative for flower growers who cannot make a rose garden outside the apartment. Caring for it does not require much effort, and a wide range of varieties will allow you to choose the perfect plant for interior decoration.
