Recently, brachycoma has not been popular with gardeners, despite its attractive delicate flowers. The plant does not require special care

and yet it blooms and pleases the eye. When reading this article, many growers will remember what brachicoma flowers are.

Plant features

Brachikoma refers to ornamental plants that are used to decorate a garden or flower bed. It belongs to the Astrov family and grows for only one year, because it does not tolerate severe frosts.

The brachycoma came to Russia from Australia, which explains its resistance to dry weather conditions. In the south of Russia, this plant is grown as a perennial. It grows in these latitudes for at least three years from the year of planting.

The plant blooms for a long time and covers the bush with a lush bouquet of flowers. At least one hundred inflorescences grow on one bush. To get acquainted with a flower, you should know its description.

Brachycoma

The flower begins to bloom in June and fades in September. Depending on the variety, flowers can have the following colors:

  • purple,
  • purple,
  • pink,
  • blue,
  • blue,
  • white,
  • Violet.

The core of the flower can be either yellow or black. At first glance, Bakrihoma can be confused with non-double asters. Bushes grow to a height of no more than thirty centimeters and look very attractive and delicate.

Most often, gardeners grow Iberisolistnaya brachikoma. To plant this flower in your garden, seeds can be purchased at a flower shop. They began to be sold not so long ago, but they are most in demand, since they bloom for a very long time and do not need special care.

Brachycoma Iberisoliferous

In order for the plant to grow well, develop and bloom, it is necessary to take care of the soil. It should be constantly loose. Therefore, the soil around the flower must be periodically loosened and weeds removed. It should also be noted that the loosening process cannot be carried out very often, as it can harm the roots.

For gardeners who love brachycomas, planting and grooming will be a pleasure. Before planting, it is recommended to add a mixture prepared from humus, sod, leafy earth and sand to the soil. A small amount of mineral fertilizers is added. All this contributes to the rapid growth and good flowering of the plant.

Important! At the bottom of the hole, drainage must be done. To do this, you can use rubble, pebbles or broken brick. Thus, wastewater will not stagnate at the root system, so that the roots will not rot.

In September, you can transplant a brachicoma bush into a flower pot and bring it indoors. So she will delight the eye for a long time. However, before transplanting, seeds are collected in order to grow a new plant the next year. If you plant them in room boxes or pots in October, you can grow a flower that will bloom throughout the winter.

Reproduction

Brachikoma ampelous reproduces in three ways:

  • cuttings;
  • by the seed method;
  • seedling method.

In Russia, the plant in most cases is planted in open ground with seedlings. This is explained by the fact that flowers on the bush will appear only three months after germination. Therefore, in late February and early March, you need to sow seeds. They do it as follows:

  1. A small flat container is selected;
  2. Prepare the soil for growing seeds. To do this, take in a ratio of 1: 2: 1: 3 leafy soil, humus, sand and sod soil. Everything is thoroughly mixed.
  3. The prepared container is filled with this mixture;
  4. The soil is leveled and small grooves are made;
  5. Seeds are evenly sown into the grooves, while in no case they are covered with earth or pressed;
  6. The soil is watered and glass is placed on top of the container or covered with film.

After a few weeks, the seeds will hatch and seedlings will appear. The air temperature in the room should be at least eighteen and not higher than twenty degrees. After the seeds have germinated, the container needs to be moved to a place with plenty of light and opened.

Note! When two real leaves appear, the seedlings must be dived. Seedlings are transplanted into individual dishes, for this you can use plastic cups or take a large container in which the plant is planted at a distance of fifty millimeters from each other.

Planting seedlings

After a week, the seedlings need to be revived. For this, fertilizers are used, which include nitrogen. The plant is transferred to open ground only when the air and soil are well warmed up and the last frosts disappear. But first, the seedlings need to be hardened. To do this, it must be taken out into the street and left there for some time. At the same time, the duration of the flower's stay in the fresh air is increased every day.

Growing a brachicoma on the site will be successful if the place where it is planted is abundantly illuminated by the sun's rays. It is necessary to transplant seedlings together with a lump of soil that remained on the roots. The distance between the stems should be at least twenty centimeters, since later branches will form on them.

Additional Information! Since the brachycoma begins to bloom twelve weeks after the first shoots, then after transplanting to a permanent place, it can bloom immediately after the root system takes root. In the southern regions of Russia, seeds are sown directly into open ground.

Flower care

Brachikoma does not require special attention and care. However, there are some rules to be learned to make the plant feel more comfortable.

Since the flower feels good in dry season, it should be rarely watered. Waterlogged soil can lead to rotting of the root system and, accordingly, the death of the plant.

Since the homeland of brachicoma is hot Australia, the plant requires a lot of light and heat.

Throughout the season, the flower needs to be revitalized only three times. First, they use universal fertilizers. Later, the plant is revived with wood ash.

Important! Complex fertilizers when applied to the soil where the brachycoma grows should be of low concentration.

Flower bushes delight with the abundance of flowers and exquisite shape. For this, it is necessary to do the formation of a bush. First of all, the top is pinched. Then, throughout the season, you need to remove the inflorescences that have had time to bloom. Thanks to this, the plant will bloom a large number of new flowers.

Why brachycoma does not bloom

Although brachycoma is not demanding at all and is immune to disease, it may not live up to expectations and blossom. You need to know what reasons became the fault. First of all, you need to inspect the bushes for the presence of pests.

Snails are very fond of making settlements in flower bushes. They also feed on the leaves of the plant. Therefore, you need to immediately collect and destroy them. You can use special preparations, but they are used very carefully, since the plant is delicate and can die from chemistry.

Snails harm the flower

Whiteflies are another pest that the brachica loves. These pests multiply rapidly. Their feces are very harmful to the delicate leaves of the plant.Also, the larvae of this insect suck the juices from the plant, which they feed on. To get rid of the pest, you need to apply a specialized chemical.

Note! If the summer is rainy and damp, then the plant can get sick. The stem and root system will begin to rot. To save the plant, it must be transplanted to a dry place and be sure to install drainage at the bottom of the hole. In the process of transplanting, all branches that have begun to rot should be removed.
